What Colorado SOS Business Entity & Registered Agent Search MCP server does
The Colorado SOS Business Entity & Registered Agent Search MCP server gives an MCP-compatible assistant access to Colorado business registry research through The Company Atlas. The underlying data comes from the Colorado Secretary of State business database and covers LLCs, corporations, nonprofits, partnerships, cooperatives, and foreign entities.
Results can include entity status, formation date, principal and mailing addresses, registered-agent information, delinquency dates, and the formation jurisdiction for foreign entities. The service is intended for locating Colorado entities and examining their public registry details, rather than for operating a locally hosted database.
How it works
The connection uses the hosted endpoint https://thecompanyatlas.com/mcp/colorado over Streamable HTTP. An MCP client sends tool requests to that endpoint after the user authorizes access with Google OAuth. Authorization remains available after the initial sign-in, according to the connection instructions.
The Colorado SOS Business Entity & Registered Agent Search MCP server exposes three tools:
Colorado_search_companies searches entities using one or more filters. Name, entity type, status, active status, city, ZIP code, and formation-date range can be combined with AND logic.
Colorado_get_company retrieves a full profile using a Colorado ID number, such as 20251955891.
Colorado_search_registered_agents finds entities represented by a person or agent firm. The name search uses a substring of the agent name as filed, and the type filter distinguishes individuals from corporate bodies.
Setup and configuration
Add the endpoint as a custom MCP connector in Claude, Cursor, or another MCP-compatible client. When prompted, sign in with Google. No local server command, package installation, or environment variable is specified in the provided setup instructions because the MCP connection is hosted by The Company Atlas.
The repository is a connection entry point rather than a separate server implementation. The documented transport is Streamable HTTP, and authentication is Google OAuth.
Tools and capabilities
Company searches require at least one filter. The name query is an entity-name substring between 3 and 120 characters. Entity type accepts Colorado Secretary of State codes such as DLLC, DPC, and FLLC; status accepts text such as Good Standing; and active status can be supplied as a Boolean. City searches the principal address, ZIP accepts a five-digit principal ZIP, and formedFrom and formedTo define a formation-date range.
Search results support pagination through page and limit. The documented maximum for limit is 50, with a default of 20. A company lookup is based on the Colorado ID and can return the registered agent, mailing address, delinquency date, and foreign-entity formation jurisdiction. Registered-agent searches can answer which entities use a named individual or commercial agent firm.
Limitations and notes
Search filters are combined with AND logic, so a request must include at least one filter and may return narrower results when several filters are supplied. Registered-agent name matching is based on the filed name substring, which may differ from an informal or abbreviated name. The supplied material identifies the Colorado Secretary of State business database as the data source but does not specify update frequency, historical coverage, rate limits, or result guarantees.
The Colorado SOS Business Entity & Registered Agent Search MCP server requires access through the hosted Company Atlas connection and Google OAuth. It should therefore be evaluated as a remote, authenticated MCP service rather than a standalone server that runs from this repository.
