What BirdieAPI MCP server does
BirdieAPI MCP server gives MCP clients access to golf data through the BirdieAPI service. The default league is the PGA Tour, with data covering tournaments, players, rounds, holes, courses, ratings, statistics, and historical results. Other supported leagues are LPGA, LIV, DP World Tour, and Korn Ferry Tour; callers can pass a league value to the tools.
The data supports common research tasks in the 🏃 Sports category. An agent can find tournaments for a season, inspect the current and upcoming schedule, retrieve a complete leaderboard, or examine one player’s hole-by-hole scorecard. It can also compare player records at a course, review head-to-head results, and identify season leaders for supported statistics.
BirdieAPI MCP server also includes a field-strength-adjusted strokes-versus-field rating. This is score-based rather than shot-level strokes gained. Par-3, par-4, and par-5 scoring splits are available for the PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour. get_winner_odds covers outright winner prices for the four men’s majors, including opening and latest prices by sportsbook and implied probability.
How it works
The repository provides a hosted remote MCP server at https://mcp.birdieapi.com/mcp using Streamable HTTP. There is no local server installation required for the hosted connection. A client can connect with a URL query key, an x-api-key header, or an Authorization: Bearer header.
Connecting and listing tools does not require a key, but invoking a tool does. The service uses credits: the documented free allocation is 500 credits per month, with paid plans and non-expiring wallet top-ups also available. The same underlying service exposes REST requests at POST /v1/{tool} with a JSON body for applications that do not use MCP.
Setup and configuration
Create an API key through BirdieAPI, then configure the remote URL in an MCP client. For Claude Code, the documented command uses the HTTP transport:
claude mcp add --transport http birdieapi "https://mcp.birdieapi.com/mcp?key=YOUR_API_KEY"
Claude Desktop, Cursor, and other clients can use an MCP configuration containing the same URL. The repository’s examples also use the BIRDIEAPI_API_KEY environment variable for Python and Node programs. Codex sends the key as a bearer token, while the Gemini CLI extension sends it in the x-api-key header.
The repository includes optional Claude skills for golf lookups, ratings, scoring splits, course fit, tournament simulation, odds calculations, and modeling methodology. These skills are separate from the live MCP data connection and can be installed from the repository or used from its skills/ directory.
Tools and capabilities
The available tools provide:
- Tournament lists, schedules, course details, leaderboards, and hole-level scorecards.
- Player search, profiles, season results, season statistics, ratings, and course history.
- Head-to-head finishes and rounds for two players who appeared in the same tournaments.
- Season leaders for computed statistics or statistics retained by ESPN.
- Major winner prices by sportsbook, with opening and latest values before the first round.
Limitations and notes
BirdieAPI MCP server does not provide round, matchup, top-10, or other non-outright tournament prices. Winner-odds coverage is limited to the four men’s majors, and a past major’s latest recorded price may be as much as a week before its first tee time. The odds data comes from The Odds API, while golf data comes from public ESPN data; the service’s ratings are its own calculations.
Coverage varies by tour and season. PGA Tour hole-by-hole data begins in 2001, while the listed non-PGA tours have hole-by-hole coverage since 2007. Check BirdieAPI’s coverage documentation before relying on a particular season or competition.
