What FastballAPI MCP server does
FastballAPI MCP server gives an AI client structured access to baseball data from FastballAPI. MLB coverage begins in 2015, with pitch-by-pitch data available for every pitch from 2018 and approximately 98β99% of seasonal pitches for 2015β2017. The service also includes NCAA Division I games carried by ESPN, but not every college game.
The tools cover both historical analysis and current game information. An agent can find teams and players, retrieve schedules and completed games, inspect standings, injuries, Elo ratings, leaders, team statistics, and player season or game-log data. More granular endpoints return pitch characteristics, plate-appearance context, spray locations, and sportsbook prices.
The listing belongs to the π Sports category and is most relevant for baseball analysis, game previews, statistical research, odds comparison, and questions that depend on play-level data.
How it works
FastballAPI MCP server is hosted remotely at https://mcp.fastballapi.com/mcp and uses Streamable HTTP, so the MCP connection does not require a local installation. The API key can be supplied in the server URL, an x-api-key header, or an Authorization: Bearer header. Clients can connect and list available tools without a key, but executing a tool requires authentication.
The same service exposes REST calls as POST /v1/{tool} with a JSON request body. This provides a direct option for scripts and applications that do not use MCP. Python and Node.js quickstart examples are included in the repository.
Data access uses credits. The service provides 500 free credits per month without a card; paid plans and wallet top-ups are documented by the provider.
Setup and configuration
Add the remote MCP URL to a compatible client and include an API key. For Claude Code, the documented command uses the HTTP transport:
claude mcp add --transport http fastballapi "https://mcp.fastballapi.com/mcp?key=YOUR_API_KEY"
For Claude Desktop, Cursor, and other clients that accept a remote MCP URL, configure the server with the same endpoint. The repository examples use the FASTBALLAPI_API_KEY environment variable for scripts. Codex sends the key as a bearer token, while the hosted MCP endpoint accepts the authentication methods described above.
The repository also contains 16 Claude skills for baseball analysis. They can be cloned with the repository, installed as a Claude Code plugin, or added with the skills CLI. These skills call the MCP tools and cover subjects such as pitch mix, run value, spray charts, odds analysis, prop modeling, and backtesting.
Tools and capabilities
The 20 tools include:
- Team, player, schedule, game, standings, injury, rating, leader, and team-stat lookups.
- Season batting and pitching metrics, including AVG, OBP, SLG, OPS, RE24, ERA, WHIP, and K/9.
- Pitch-level fields such as count, pitch type, velocity, location, and result.
- Plate-appearance records with base-out state, batted-ball information, win probability, and RE24.
- Pitch-mix usage, velocity, and whiff rate by pitch type, plus batter or team spray charts.
- Moneyline, run-line, total, line-movement, and player-prop data from sportsbooks.
- Historical prop results for hits, home runs, total bases, RBI, pitcher strikeouts, and pitcher outs.
College coverage has narrower scope: pitch tools, spray charts, and injuries are not offered for NCAA data. MLB player props begin in May 2023, and college player props are not available.
