What Maestro Career Studio does
Maestro Career Studio MCP server provides a local workspace for maintaining one career history and producing resumes for specific roles. It can tailor a resume from saved career information, compare a resume with a job post, and track applications. The project describes 88 tools for use from supported AI clients, including Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and VS Code.
The application keeps approved career bullets as the source for resume versions. When a role exposes a missing qualification or experience, the workflow can treat it as a gap rather than presenting unsupported experience. Suggested AI edits are shown as before-and-after changes that can be accepted or undone individually.
This fits the Workplace & Productivity category for developers who want a local, structured process for job-search documents instead of managing many disconnected resume files.
How it works
Maestro runs as a local web application and listens on your own machine by default. The maestro connect command adds the application to supported MCP clients, allowing an AI client to use its tools. The README identifies Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and VS Code as connection targets.
Resume matching is designed to be repeatable: the same resume and job produce the same score. Scoring uses fixed rules and a small model downloaded to the computer. It is a comparison aid for your own drafts, not an employer's score or an interview prediction.
OpenAI, Gemini, or Claude can provide optional AI features. Without an AI key, scoring, PDF generation, and tracking still work. When AI features are used, resume and job information is sent to the selected AI service.
Setup and configuration
Install uv, then install and start the package:
uv tool install --python 3.12 maestro-career-studio
maestro start
The first start downloads an approximately 100 MB scoring model from Hugging Face and opens the application at http://localhost:3000. Add an AI key under Settings › AI & models if you want to use OpenAI, Gemini, or Claude for supported AI operations. Then import resumes, save a job, and tailor a version for it.
Run maestro connect with the target application to configure MCP access. The documented targets are Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and VS Code. The package supports macOS, Linux, and Windows on x64. Windows on ARM and musl-based Linux distributions have PDF-engine limitations described in the project documentation.
Tools and capabilities
Maestro Career Studio MCP server supports workflows for:
- Tailoring resumes from a stored career history
- Scoring resumes against job posts
- Tracking saved jobs and applications
- Producing PDF resumes with LaTeX or Typst templates
- Reviewing AI edits as individual diffs
- Filling application forms from saved answers through the optional Companion
The Companion can fill fields and attach a resume, but it does not submit an application. Submission remains a manual action.
Limitations and notes
The application has no login. Anyone who can reach it may be able to read or change the career record and saved API keys, so the project recommends keeping it on the local machine and not exposing it to a network. The published sync path is intended to be configured only as documented.
Career data remains on the computer unless an AI feature sends relevant resume or job information to the selected provider. The project is free and open source under Apache-2.0, but using an external AI provider may incur that provider's charges. The README also notes that the project has had limited testing on machines outside the maintainer's environment.
