What Apple Docs 2.0 MCP does
Apple Docs 2.0 MCP MCP server gives MCP-compatible coding agents access to Apple developer documentation and related technical resources. Its coverage includes Swift and Objective-C API references, articles, tutorials, sample projects, Human Interface Guidelines, App Store Connect Help, App Store Connect API and other web-service references, framework catalogs, release notes, and technology overviews.
The Apple Docs 2.0 MCP MCP server also includes 1,700 WWDC sessions from 2014 through 2026. Transcripts are available for 1,416 sessions, while 715 sessions include code samples with timestamps showing where the code appears in the video.
How it works
The search_apple_docs tool uses the search service behind developer.apple.com. Search results can cover API reference pages, articles, sample code, design guidance, App Store Connect Help, and WWDC videos. After finding a result, an agent can read the corresponding page before answering a question or generating code.
The search_docs_map tool searches an offline map of 336,629 page names. It is useful when the exact title is known or when an error message mentions a symbol, method, property, entitlement, Info.plist key, endpoint, or guideline. Because this lookup is local, it can find page names without making a network request.
Documentation pages are returned with details such as full method and property signatures, inheritance, protocol conformance, related APIs, and platform introduction or deprecation versions. The WWDC collection can connect an API question to the session that introduced it, including available transcripts, code samples, resources, and related sessions.
Setup and configuration
The package runs through Node.js and can be launched with npx -y apple-docs-2.0-mcp. No API key or account is required. The README provides stdio configuration examples for Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code, and Zed, and a command for adding it to Claude Code:
claude mcp add apple-docs -- npx -y apple-docs-2.0-mcp
For Claude Desktop, Cursor, and VS Code, the configuration uses npx as the command and -y apple-docs-2.0-mcp as its arguments. Zed uses the same command and arguments under context_servers. If an older package version is being selected, the README recommends adding @latest to the package argument.
Tools and capabilities
The Apple Docs 2.0 MCP MCP server provides 19 tools, including capabilities for:
- Searching Apple documentation and related content
- Finding pages by name through the offline documentation map
- Reading complete API, article, tutorial, guideline, and web-service pages
- Browsing framework symbols and technology categories
- Checking API relationships, replacements, and platform compatibility
- Finding sample projects and their download links
- Reading release notes and “What’s new” documentation
- Searching WWDC sessions, transcripts, timed code, and related resources
Limitations and notes
The WWDC collection has transcripts for 1,416 of its 1,700 sessions and code samples for 715. The project describes the session range as 2014–2026. Network-backed searches are subject to Apple's response behavior; the server waits between requests and retries failed requests. The offline page-name map does not replace reading the full page when detailed content is needed.
The project is a fork of Apple Docs MCP and is distributed under the MIT license.
