How Zillow MCP works

What zillow-mcp does

The zillow-mcp MCP server gives an MCP-compatible client access to Zillow data through a browser session. It supports listing searches, property lookups, address resolution, bulk retrieval, photos, Zestimate and price histories, tax records, market reports, and comparisons of up to 12 properties. It also includes local affordability, mortgage, and rent-versus-buy calculations.

Account-scoped tools expose the saved searches and favorited homes belonging to the Zillow session in the connected browser tab. Session tools can label a registered account and inspect the local session registry, but they do not switch the account used for requests.

How it works

The zillow-mcp MCP server does not use Zillow’s public consumer API. Requests are sent through the ContextMint Bridge browser extension to a Zillow tab, using that tab’s cookies, TLS connection, and JavaScript context. The implementation reads private web-application endpoints and page data, including homedetails pages and embedded page state.

Search results can include Zillow’s reported total and the number fetched, making truncation visible. For broader collection, zillow_sweep_area recursively tiles a map area, removes duplicates, and reports completeness and possible data drift. Bulk and comparison operations can return partial results when Zillow presents a bot challenge or when work does not finish before the deadline.

A zpid must be a positive whole number or a digits-only string. Property URLs belong in the relevant url or urls fields. Bulk retrieval and comparison accept either zpids or URLs in a call, not both.

Setup and configuration

The zillow-mcp MCP server can be run with npx after publication, or built from source with Node.js commands: clone the repository, run npm install, run npm run build, and start dist/bundle.js with Node. An MCP client configuration uses either npx -y zillow-mcp or the built bundle as its command.

Before making requests, install the ContextMint Bridge extension and load it into Chrome from its unpacked release. The provided setup notes state that Safari support is not available yet. The connected tab may be signed in or signed out, but saved searches and saved homes require the applicable Zillow session.

Limitations and notes

This is an unofficial browser-based integration, not an approved Zillow API client. Zillow may change the private endpoints or page structures it relies on, which can stop the server from working. Zillow’s terms address automated access and may prohibit scraping or automated queries without permission.

The repository describes the project as intended for personal, non-commercial use and says it is not affiliated with Zillow Group. Users are responsible for consequences such as rate limits, CAPTCHA challenges, account warnings, suspension, or IP blocks. Do not treat returned listing, estimate, tax, or market data as guaranteed current or complete. The server also cannot bypass a bot wall; callers may need to wait and retry blocked rows.
