Overview

The redfin-mcp MCP server connects an MCP client to Redfin through your signed-in browser using the ContextMint Bridge extension. It supports listing searches, property records and photos, market reports, price history, climate risk, comparable rentals, saved homes, saved searches, and local mortgage or affordability calculations. Reach for it when an agent needs Redfin data tied to your own browser session rather than a separate API credential. Requests use Redfin’s private web endpoints, so availability and permitted use depend on Redfin’s terms and site behavior.

Use cases

  • Search Redfin listings by location and price range
  • Compare up to 12 properties side by side
  • Review property history, photos, and climate risk
  • Estimate rent, affordability, or monthly mortgage costs
  • Inspect saved homes and saved searches

Key features

  • Redfin listing and address search
  • Property details, photos, and price history
  • Market reports and rental comparables
  • Saved homes and saved searches
  • Climate-risk data and property comparison
  • Local affordability and PITI calculations

How Redfin MCP works

What redfin-mcp does

The redfin-mcp MCP server exposes Redfin-oriented real-estate operations to an MCP client. It can search listings by location, price, bedrooms, bathrooms, and home type; resolve addresses; retrieve property details and image galleries; and compare as many as 12 properties in an aligned summary.

Regional analysis includes median sale and list prices, year-over-year ZHVI, average days on market, and inventory. Property-level tools provide listing and tax history, First Street Foundation flood, fire, and heat risk information, and nearby rental comparisons. Separate local calculations estimate purchase affordability and monthly PITI costs, including principal, interest, taxes, insurance, HOA fees, and PMI.

Account-scoped operations return favorited homes across collections and saved searches with their region URLs and display text.

How it works

The Node process communicates with the MCP client over stdio. It then sends Redfin requests through a separate ContextMint Bridge connection to an open, signed-in Redfin browser tab. The browser supplies the existing cookies, TLS context, and JavaScript environment, so the server does not use a separate Redfin login or a headless browser.

Searches use Redfin autocomplete before querying its GIS endpoint. Address resolution similarly performs an autocomplete request and returns a canonical URL and home ID when a match exists. Network-free affordability and mortgage calculations run locally. The health check tests the bridge path through Redfin’s robots endpoint and reports whether the bridge, extension link, pairing state, or Redfin side is responsible for a failure.

Setup and configuration

Install from npm with npx -y redfin-mcp, or clone the repository, run npm install, build with npm run build, and start dist/bundle.js with Node. Add the resulting command to the MCP client’s configuration.

Before using Redfin tools, install the ContextMint Bridge Chrome extension from its release package, load it as an unpacked extension with Chrome’s developer mode, open redfin.com, and sign in. Safari is not available yet according to the setup notes. The same bridge can be shared by other fetchproxy-based MCP servers.

Tools and capabilities

  • Search listings and resolve free-text addresses.
  • Retrieve property records, photos, price history, and climate-risk factors.
  • Produce market reports, rental comparables, and property comparisons.
  • Read saved homes and saved searches from the signed-in account.
  • Calculate affordability and mortgage payments locally.
  • Diagnose bridge and extension connectivity with a health check.

Limitations and notes

The redfin-mcp MCP server relies on private /stingray and /myredfin endpoints used by Redfin’s website. Redfin can change those endpoints without notice, so the integration may stop working or return incomplete results. A failed request may also reflect a disconnected extension, pending pairing, rate limiting, WAF challenge, or another Redfin-side response.

The repository states that Redfin does not publish a public consumer API and that use is governed by Redfin’s Terms of Use. It specifically warns against automated crawling without express written permission, bulk extraction, redistribution of IDX data, model training, competing products, and commercial use. The maintainer describes the project as for personal, non-commercial use and says users are responsible for consequences involving their account, IP, or access.

Only the user’s own signed-in browser session is used; the server cannot access another account. Treat results as dependent on the current Redfin session and website behavior rather than as a stable public API.

Frequently Asked Questions about Redfin MCP

redfin-mcp is an MCP server that connects an MCP client to Redfin through your signed-in browser and the ContextMint Bridge extension. Its main tools search listings, retrieve property details and photos, generate market reports, inspect price history, compare homes, estimate rentals, calculate mortgages, and read saved homes and searches.

Install it with npx or build it from source, then add its command to your MCP configuration. From source, clone the repository, run npm install and npm run build, and start dist/bundle.js with Node. You must also install the ContextMint Bridge Chrome extension and sign in to redfin.com.

It describes a standard stdio MCP server, so compatibility depends on Cursor’s MCP configuration and support for stdio servers; configure the npx command or the built Node bundle if supported.

Run redfin_healthcheck to identify the failing hop. It reports bridge availability, extension connection and pairing state, and Redfin-side problems. Requests can also fail because Redfin changes private endpoints, applies rate limits or WAF challenges, or the signed-in browser tab is unavailable.

No API key is described as required. The server sends requests through your signed-in Redfin browser tab using the ContextMint Bridge extension, so authentication comes from that existing session.
