What Startmining Bitcoin Mining Data MCP server does
The Startmining Bitcoin Mining Data MCP server gives MCP-compatible AI clients access to Bitcoin mining and network data. It covers current BTC price, hashprice, difficulty, network statistics, halving and supply information, mempool conditions, recent blocks, and ASIC market prices. It also performs mining-specific calculations, including profitability for an ASIC setup and the BTC price needed to break even.
The service fits the Finance & Fintech category and is intended for questions about mining economics, network conditions, and Bitcoin time series. Historical price data is available from January 2009, while network information comes directly from a Bitcoin Core node. Calculations use current conditions rather than a fixed report.
How it works
After the MCP server is started, an AI client can invoke its named tools and return the results in response to natural-language questions. Current market queries can combine BTC price, hashprice, difficulty, and network statistics. Hashprice results include a breakdown in dollars per petahash per day, while difficulty results include a prediction for the next adjustment.
Historical tools accept time ranges or periods as appropriate. Price history supports a selected granularity, difficulty history includes hashrate, monthly averages use UTC calendar months, and weekly statistics cover closed ISO weeks in UTC. Weekly results can include block time, fees, implied hashrate, hashprice, difficulty adjustments, and daily rows.
Setup and configuration
Install the package globally with npm install -g @startminingmcp/mcp, or launch it without a global installation using npx @startminingmcp/mcp. For Claude Desktop, add a server entry whose command is npx and whose argument is @startminingmcp/mcp.
The STARTMINING_API_KEY environment variable is optional. Supplying it in the client configuration is documented as a way to receive higher rate limits; the README does not state that a key is required for normal operation.
Tools and capabilities
The available tools include:
get_market_data for current BTC price, hashprice, difficulty, and network statistics.
get_hashprice and get_difficulty for mining-relevant network metrics.
get_price_history, get_difficulty_history, get_monthly_averages, and get_weekly_stats for historical analysis.
get_halving_info for the current era, next halving, and supply statistics.
calculate_profitability and calculate_breakeven for ASIC mining economics.
get_mempool, get_recent_blocks, and get_asic_prices for transaction, block, and hardware-market data.
Limitations and notes
The Startmining Bitcoin Mining Data MCP server depends on the data exposed by its internal price database and Bitcoin Core node. The documented price history begins on 2009-01-03. Recent-block results are limited to a maximum of 50 blocks, and weekly statistics default to the previous two weeks. Monthly averages use UTC calendar months, so callers should provide the intended month in YYYY-MM format. An API key changes rate-limit access but is not described as adding tools or changing the data sources.
