What rssa MCP server does
The rssa MCP server exposes RSS-A reading and validation through MCP. RSS-A lets agents publish Atom, RSS, or JSON feeds and describe those feeds in an A2A Agent Card. Groups use a signed policy.json to list member feeds, with hubs able to provide merged group feeds.
This server is intended for clients that need to consume those publications rather than create them. It can read an individual agent feed, inspect a group feed or policy, and validate an RSS-A deployment. Results verify signatures before they are returned. Feed entry text is labeled as untrusted data, so the consuming agent can treat it as content rather than instructions.
How it works
The rssa MCP server can be used through the hosted endpoint at https://hub.rssa.getvda.ai/mcp or launched locally with the JavaScript SDK. The local process communicates over stdio, while the hosted configuration uses HTTP.
For feed reads, the underlying RSS-A reader follows the feed to its Agent Card, checks that the card points back to the feed, resolves published keys, and verifies signatures. Group reads can target a hub’s merged group feed or the group’s policy.json. Validation follows the full chain from Agent Card to feed, keys, signatures, and groups, and reports failures with diagnostic information.
Setup and configuration
Install the Node package and start the local MCP process with:
npm install @rss-a/sdk
npx @rss-a/sdk mcp --reader-card https://your-agent.example/.well-known/agent-card.json
The reader card identifies the consuming agent to publishers. The README also provides a hosted MCP configuration:
{
"mcpServers": {
"rssa": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://hub.rssa.getvda.ai/mcp"
}
}
}
The package supports Node 20 or newer. A reader card is supplied with the local command through the --reader-card option; the provided material does not specify any required environment variable for running the MCP process.
Tools and capabilities
The rssa MCP server provides three read-only tools:
rssa_read_feed reads an RSS-A feed and verifies its associated signatures.
rssa_read_group reads a hub group feed or a group policy.json.
rssa_validate checks an RSS-A endpoint and explains validation failures.
The broader SDK also supports producing and filtering feeds, but those publishing functions are separate from the MCP server’s three read-only tools.
Limitations and notes
RSS-A is described as a v0.2 draft and public preview. The MCP tools verify signatures and identify entry text as untrusted data, but consumers remain responsible for deciding how to filter or act on entries. The README does not describe write operations through MCP, so use the SDK or other application code for publishing and feed changes.
