What roblox-devforum-mcp MCP server does
The roblox-devforum-mcp MCP server gives an AI coding agent read-only access to three Roblox-related sources: the public Developer Forum, the Roblox creator-docs repository, and an API dump from Roblox-Client-Tracker. It is intended for investigating Roblox development issues with current community discussions and platform reference material.
Forum tools can search by category, tag, date, likes, and solved status. A dedicated bug search limits results to bug-report categories, which helps identify discussions about the same symptom. Agents can then load a topic as Markdown, preserve code blocks, place a marked solution first, and fetch additional replies when a thread is long. Category and tag listing tools expose the slugs accepted by the search filters.
Documentation and API tools cover more than keyword lookup. Creator documentation can be searched by page content, and a page can be read in full by supplying its path. Engine API queries return information such as signatures, security levels, and deprecation status for classes, enums, datatypes, and Luau libraries.
How it works
The roblox-devforum-mcp MCP server uses a standard command-based MCP configuration. The supplied installation command runs the package through npx, and other MCP clients can launch it with the same command and argument. No authentication, Roblox login, or API key is required according to the project documentation.
Every tool is read-only and returns Markdown containing source URLs. Results are kept within a token budget. The server can search multiple phrasings in one forum request, which is useful when an error may be described in different ways by different developers.
For API validation, check_api_health can identify removed or deprecated APIs, casing problems, security restrictions, and yielding behavior. get_whats_new helps investigate recent platform changes, while get_weekly_recap retrieves Roblox Weekly Recap entries from the current or past periods.
Setup and configuration
Install it with:
claude mcp add roblox-devforum -- npx -y roblox-devforum-mcp
For another MCP client, configure a server whose command is npx and whose argument is -y roblox-devforum-mcp. The project also documents a DeepSeek Harness plugin command.
All configuration variables are optional. DEVFORUM_CACHE_TTL controls search-cache duration, while DEVFORUM_TIMEOUT_MS, DEVFORUM_DEADLINE_MS, and DEVFORUM_MAX_RETRIES control request timing and retries. DEVFORUM_CONCURRENCY and DEVFORUM_CDN_CONCURRENCY set parallel request limits. Documentation search depth is controlled by DEVFORUM_DOCS_SCAN, cached data is stored under DEVFORUM_CACHE_DIR, and DEVFORUM_BASE_URL can point to another Discourse instance. Invalid values are ignored and the default is used.
