What Papertrade AI does
Papertrade AI MCP server exposes Papertrade data and trading operations to MCP-compatible AI clients. Its read-only tools cover BTC and ETH perpetual markets, Hyperliquid-derived price data, protocol activity, trader rankings, recent transactions, account state, trade history, and portfolio performance.
The server also supports guarded trading. Users can preview a position, confirm it, and open it with their funds. Existing positions can be closed at market, while queued intents can be cancelled or checked for status. The available markets and account functions are specific to Papertrade; the material does not describe support for other exchanges or assets.
How it works
The hosted endpoint uses Streamable HTTP and OAuth 2.1, so clients can connect with a URL rather than an API key. A wallet registers a delegated session key that can trade but cannot withdraw funds. Trading permissions include limits selected by the wallet owner, such as margin per trade, leverage, daily size, open positions, and permitted markets. The server reports whether a session is active, when it expires, and how much of the daily limit has been used.
Papertrade AI can also run locally over stdio through the npm package. In that mode, wallet credentials are stored under ~/.config/papertrade-ai with file mode 0600. Public tools are available over MCP and plain HTTPS, and the project publishes an OpenAPI 3.1 description for its REST interface.
Setup and configuration
For hosted use, add https://papertrade-ai.ninabrekkerese.workers.dev/mcp to an MCP client and complete OAuth. The README provides client-specific installation paths for Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, Gemini CLI, and other clients.
For local stdio use, configure the command npx -y papertrade-ai. Run npx -y papertrade-ai login once to connect a wallet in a browser. No API keys are required for the hosted connection. Funding information is available through get_deposit_info, including a personal deposit proxy address for USDC on HyperCore spot, minimums, activation fees, and current HyperEVM USDC/HYPE balances.
Tools and capabilities
- Inspect live BTC and ETH market prices, spreads, volume, open interest, limits, leverage, minimum size, and market status.
- Retrieve Hyperliquid OHLCV charts, range statistics, and a TradingView link.
- Review protocol TVL, margin, liquidity-provider data, volume, fees, PAPER supply, staking, and daily activity.
- Analyze liquidation clusters, trader leaderboards, profitable positions, recent trades, account balances, and wallet history.
- Calculate hypothetical liquidation distance and settled PnL using the exchange formula.
- Preview and open positions, close positions, cancel queued intents, and check intent status.
Limitations and notes
Trading tools use the connected wallet's funds and require a valid delegated session key. Opening a position is intentionally a two-step flow: preview_trade comes before open_position, and every trade requires user confirmation. The session key can trade but cannot withdraw.
Market settlement uses Hyperliquid price data. The listed trading scope is Papertrade BTC and ETH perpetuals, and the documentation does not establish support for additional markets. Read-only analytics can be accessed without the trading permissions required for execution. On clients with MCP Apps support, including Claude, ChatGPT, VS Code, and Goose, results may render as interactive trading cards with live charts.
