Install not yet sandbox-tested— the server itself is confirmed live (we called its tools/list endpoint). The stdio install command is a separate, ongoing check.

Overview

octoco-ltd/sheetsdata-mcp connects AI agents to SheetsData's hosted electronic-component data and manufacturer datasheets through MCP. It searches JLCPCB, Mouser, and DigiKey, retrieves datasheet sections as text and tables, compares parts, checks BOMs, and evaluates operating conditions against ratings. Use it for component selection, datasheet research, second-source discovery, and design validation when you have specific MPNs or LCSC numbers. The service is available over Streamable HTTP, with an npm stdio proxy for clients that launch local MCP processes.

How Sheetsdata MCP works

octoco-ltd/sheetsdata-mcp gives agents access to electronic-component information without requiring the agent to locate or process PDF files directly. It can find parts by MPN, keyword, or numeric requirements; return supplier pricing and stock; retrieve extracted datasheet sections; and assess whether stated operating conditions fit a component's recommended and absolute limits.

The service combines provider data with manufacturer documentation. Search results can include datasheet availability, while extracted datasheets support semantic lookup across parts and targeted questions inside one document. Organization-uploaded datasheets are private to that organization.

How it works

The hosted MCP endpoint is https://mcp.sheetsdata.com/mcp and uses Streamable HTTP. Interactive clients can authenticate through MCP OAuth, while scripts and headless clients can send an API key as a Bearer token. The repository also includes the @sheetsdata/mcp npm stdio proxy and a Claude Desktop bundle for clients that start local servers.

Datasheet extraction is asynchronous. A first read may queue extraction and typically takes 30 seconds to two minutes. Call check_extraction_status every 5–10 seconds, then retry the relevant operation when the status reaches ready. Extracted documents are cached for later calls.

Inputs should be specific manufacturer part numbers, such as TPS54302DDCR, or LCSC numbers such as C2837938. Values like 100nF, descriptions, and reference designators are rejected as part identifiers.

Tools and capabilities

  • Search supplier catalogs with search_parts, or discover parts meeting numeric, package, and stock constraints with find_parts.
  • Retrieve detailed component data using get_part_details and review up to 20 BOM lines with check_bom.
  • Read datasheet sections or search within a datasheet using read_datasheet; search extracted documents semantically with search_datasheets.
  • Compare 2–5 known MPNs with compare_parts, or find ranked substitutes with find_alternative.
  • Validate voltage, current, temperature, and related conditions through check_design_fit, which reports PASS, WARNING, FAIL, or insufficient data.
  • Inspect graphs, package drawings, pin diagrams, and schematics with analyze_image when text extraction is not enough.
  • Warm a BOM's datasheets with prefetch_datasheets and monitor jobs with check_extraction_status.
  • Supply missing documentation through request_datasheet_upload and confirm_datasheet_upload; uploaded PDFs are checked and stored privately for the organization.

Setup and configuration

Add the hosted MCP URL to a compatible client and complete the browser-based OAuth flow, or create an API key and configure the client to send Authorization: Bearer <key>. For clients that only support local process startup, install and configure the npm stdio proxy package @sheetsdata/mcp.

Searching is free. Other operations consume account credit according to the service's pricing, and a new account includes starting credit. The upload confirmation operation charges a fee after the PDF passes validation.

Limitations and notes

check_design_fit checks documented limits rather than replacing thermal or electrical engineering review. Ambient temperature is not silently treated as junction temperature; a junction estimate requires suitable operating inputs and an available thermal-resistance value. SOA graph interpretation should use analyze_image, and register-level microcontroller details may belong in a reference manual rather than the datasheet.

A missing public PDF can be retried through prefetch_datasheets; if it remains unavailable, upload a text-based PDF. Uploads must be valid, parseable PDFs no larger than 50 MB, with the MPN or its core stem on the first page. Scanned image-only, encrypted, or corrupted files may not be extractable. Datasheet summaries used by compare_parts must already be cached, so prefetch them first when needed.
