Overview

The OAHelper MCP server connects an MCP client to your own OAHelper Pro account and exposes company OA sets, questions, MCQ answers, official solutions, and interview experiences. It runs locally over stdio, caches requests, and saves fetched content as Markdown under a configurable data directory for offline reading. Reach for it when you want agent-assisted interview preparation using your existing OAHelper access, while observing OAHelper's restrictions on automated access and scraping.

Use cases

  • Sync a company's past OA sets for interview preparation
  • Practice MCQs from saved company answer keys
  • Retrieve an official solution in C++, Python, or Java
  • Review company interview experiences offline
  • Run a timed mock assessment from past questions

Key features

  • Search and sync company OA sets
  • Retrieve questions, MCQ explanations, and community solutions
  • Fetch official C++, Python, and Java solutions
  • Save sets, questions, and interviews as Markdown
  • Inspect cached content without a network request
  • Check session validity and daily request usage

How OAHelper works

What OAHelper MCP server does

The OAHelper MCP server gives an MCP client read access to content available through your logged-in OAHelper account. It can list a company's online assessment sets, retrieve individual set and question pages, fetch MCQ answers and explanations, request official solutions in C++, Python, or Java, and load interview experiences.

Fetched material is written as plain Markdown rather than kept only in the agent conversation. Each company gets an index, set files, question files, and interview files under the local library. Images are saved only when requested. The saved library can be opened in Obsidian or read by an agent without making another request to OAHelper.

The package also includes nine skills for workflows such as mock assessments, MCQ practice, hint-based problem solving, interview preparation, study plans, and spaced revision. Claude Code can install the server and skills together through the provided plugin; the MCP server can also be run independently by another compatible client.

How it works

The server launches as a local Python stdio process. With uv, the usual command is uvx oahelper-mcp; installation through pip or a cloned virtual environment is also documented. The implementation uses the official MCP SDK and Python's standard-library HTTP support.

Available operations include searching a company's sets, syncing sets and their contents, opening one company set, reading one question, retrieving a language-specific official solution, listing interview experiences, checking the offline library, and checking session status. Search results are cached for one day. Sync is bounded by max_items, downloads newest content first, and reports whether more work remains. Offline inspection does not require a session or network request.

The server is designed around deliberate, limited access: requests are spaced by two seconds, a daily request limit defaults to 300, and cached content is not fetched again unnecessarily. These controls do not remove the account or service risks described by OAHelper's terms.

Setup and configuration

Install uv with Python 3.10 or newer, or install the package with pip. Configure the OAHelper MCP server with the cookie from an authenticated browser session. Copy the complete cookie request header from a browser request containing /api/proxy/ and set it as OAHELPER_COOKIE. Treat this value as a password: do not place it in prompts, commit it to source control, or share it.

Data is stored in ~/.oahelper by default. Set OAHELPER_HOME to use another location. When running from a repository clone, the data directory, cache, and .env are located in the clone unless the home setting changes that behavior. The documented client configurations cover Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code Copilot agent mode, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Windsurf, and Cline.

After configuration, ask the agent to run the status operation with online checking enabled. A valid session and Pro account are needed for most content, and the session must be renewed if OAHelper rejects it after logout or expiration.

Limitations and notes

The OAHelper MCP server is intended for access to your own account and content already included in your plan. OAHelper's terms prohibit automated access and scraping; the README warns that misuse can result in losing the Pro account. Use it one company at a time when requested, do not crawl the site, and do not publish or share the saved content.

Official solutions consume the account's solution quota. Some content requires a Pro account. The cookie-based session is not permanent, and online operations depend on the authenticated browser session. Offline files remain available after synchronization, but they contain only material previously saved to disk.

Frequently Asked Questions about OAHelper

OAHelper is an MCP server that connects MCP clients to your logged-in OAHelper Pro account. Its main tools search and sync company OA sets, retrieve questions and MCQ answers, fetch official C++, Python, or Java solutions, read interview experiences, inspect offline files, and check session status. It saves fetched content as local Markdown.

Install it with `uvx oahelper-mcp`, or use `pip install oahelper-mcp` and run `oahelper-mcp`. You can also clone the repository, create a Python 3.10+ virtual environment, install its requirements, and configure the resulting Python command in your MCP client.

Set `OAHELPER_COOKIE` to the full cookie value from an authenticated request to an OAHelper `/api/proxy/` endpoint. Copy it from your browser's Network request headers and place it in `~/.oahelper/.env` or your client's environment configuration. Treat the cookie as a password.

Yes, OAHelper works with Cursor through a standard stdio MCP configuration. Add an `oahelper` server to `~/.cursor/mcp.json` for all projects or `.cursor/mcp.json` for one project, using `uvx` as the command and `oahelper-mcp` as its argument.

Yes, you can read content previously saved to the local library without a network request. Run the offline operation to see what is already stored. New searches, syncs, question retrievals, solutions, and interview downloads still require a valid session and online access.
