What the Lucid MCP server does

The Lucid MCP server gives compatible AI clients access to Lucid documents and visual content through MCP. It can search documents, summarize details and action items, create diagrams from natural-language descriptions, and build org charts from CSV data or text. It also supports editing existing documents by adding, changing, or deleting shapes.

Document collaboration is included: an AI client can create shareable links with specified permissions and share documents with collaborators by email. Other supported workflows include generating UML sequence diagrams from PlantUML markup, exporting documents as PNG files, fetching images attached to shapes, and converting visual output from Claude into a Lucid document.

How it works

The Lucid MCP server is hosted at https://mcp.lucid.app/mcp and uses Streamable HTTP. Authentication uses OAuth 2.0 with Dynamic Client Registration, so the client completes the authorization flow rather than receiving a static credential in the server configuration.

The service acts as a pass-through. It can access Lucid documents that the authenticated user is allowed to access within their account, but not documents owned by users outside that account. Lucid states that the service does not retain document content, prompts, or queries, and that credentials remain within the Lucid account.

Setup and configuration

To use the Lucid MCP server, configure an MCP client with the hosted endpoint. Clients that support HTTP can use a configuration entry with type set to http and the Lucid URL. For clients without HTTP transport support, the documented approach uses the mcp-remote Node.js package to forward stdio requests to the same endpoint; Node.js is required for that arrangement.

Lucid provides dedicated connection guidance for ChatGPT and Claude. The repository also documents setup for Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Microsoft Copilot Studio, and GitHub Copilot. Cursor has a plugin installation command, and a Claude plugin is described for direct repository installation and future marketplace availability.

Team and Enterprise administrators can allow or disable MCP access from Lucid's Admin, Security, and Feature controls settings. Enabling access permits users to connect from AI clients; restricting access to selected AI tools requires disabling the server at the account level.

Limitations and notes

The Lucid MCP server is available on Free, Individual, Team, and Enterprise plans, but not on FedRAMP accounts. Access is limited by the authenticated user's existing Lucid permissions. Team and Enterprise administrators can control whether users may connect.

The Lucid MCP server is subject to the applicable negotiated services agreement or Lucid's standard Terms of Service. AI tools connected through it are treated as Non-Lucid Applications under those terms, and use of those tools remains subject to their third-party providers' agreements. The repository contents are licensed under MIT, while Lucid trademarks, logos, and brand names remain Lucid Software property.
