The install command started, but didn't respond the way we expected when we tried to talk to it.

npx @striderlabs/mcp-kroger

initialize succeeded but no response to tools/list.

This is an experimental automated check and can have false negatives — missing environment variables, a slow cold install, etc. It doesn’t necessarily mean something’s wrong. Last checked 5d ago.

Overview

The kroger MCP server connects AI agents to Kroger shopping accounts for product search, cart management, coupons, fuel points, fulfillment scheduling, and ordering. Use it when an agent needs to prepare Kroger grocery purchases, arrange pickup or delivery, or repeat past orders. A Kroger account and Kroger Plus card are required, with Node.js 18+ needed to run the package.

How Kroger works

What the kroger MCP server does

The kroger MCP server gives an MCP client access to common Kroger grocery workflows. Agents can authenticate a Kroger account, select a preferred store by ZIP code or store ID, search products by name, brand, or category, and retrieve product details such as nutrition information.

Shopping workflows cover adding products to a cart, reviewing cart contents and totals, changing quantities, and removing items. The server also exposes digital coupon actions, including listing available coupons and clipping selected coupons to a Kroger Plus card. Fuel-points tools return the account balance and available rewards.

For fulfillment, agents can request delivery or pickup time slots and proceed to checkout. Order-history and reorder tools support reviewing recent purchases and placing repeat orders. The connector also supports Kroger-owned banners listed in the README, including Ralphs, Fred Meyer, King Soopers, Fry's, Smith's, QFC, and Harris Teeter.

How it works

Each capability is available as a named MCP tool. A typical flow starts with kroger_login, followed by kroger_set_store and kroger_search_products. The agent can inspect product details, add selected product IDs to the cart, apply coupons, and review totals before requesting fulfillment slots and calling checkout.

Pickup and delivery are separate slot queries, so the agent can choose the fulfillment method before checkout. The server also supports an alternate workflow in which an agent reads order history and uses kroger_reorder for a previous purchase.

Setup and configuration

Install the package with npm:

Terminal
npm install @striderlabs/mcp-kroger

Register it in the MCP client configuration as a command-based server:

config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "kroger": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["@striderlabs/mcp-kroger"]
    }
  }
}

The documented runtime requirement is Node.js 18 or newer. The account requirement is a Kroger account with a Kroger Plus card. No environment variables are specified in the provided configuration.

Tools and capabilities

The kroger MCP server exposes these tools:

  • kroger_login for account authentication.
  • kroger_set_store for selecting a store by ZIP code or ID.
  • kroger_search_products and kroger_get_product_details for product discovery and information.
  • kroger_add_to_cart, kroger_view_cart, and kroger_update_cart_item for cart operations.
  • kroger_get_coupons and kroger_clip_coupon for digital coupon handling.
  • kroger_get_fuel_points for fuel-points information.
  • kroger_get_delivery_slots and kroger_get_pickup_slots for fulfillment availability.
  • kroger_checkout for proceeding to checkout.
  • kroger_get_order_history and kroger_reorder for past orders and repeat purchases.

Limitations and notes

It also does not list environment variables or provide details about how authentication credentials are stored.

Frequently Asked Questions about Kroger

kroger is an MCP server that connects AI agents to Kroger's shopping services. Its main tools authenticate an account, choose a store, search products, manage carts, apply coupons, inspect fuel points, find pickup or delivery slots, and check out or reorder past purchases.

Install it with npm using `npm install @striderlabs/mcp-kroger`, then add the documented `npx @striderlabs/mcp-kroger` command to your MCP client configuration. Node.js 18 or newer is required.

It documents a standard command-based MCP configuration using `npx`, so client compatibility should be verified against Cursor's support for that configuration.

You need a Kroger account with a Kroger Plus card. The tools use that account for authentication, coupons, fuel points, carts, checkout, and order-history operations.
