What japan-anime-figure-mcp does
The japan-anime-figure-mcp MCP server provides read-only price lookups for Japanese anime figures. Its data comes from data/anime_figure_prices_normalized.jsonl, a normalized dataset collected from MyFigureList and other sources, including various Japanese retailers. Results are expressed in Japanese yen (JPY).
The server fits the E-Commerce category for workflows that need to inspect collectible pricing rather than place orders or modify marketplace data. It does not provide purchasing, inventory management, or seller-account operations in the documented tool set.
How it works
The server runs locally and exposes MCP tools over either standard input/output or streamable HTTP. Start it with python server/server.py for stdio transport, or use python server/server.py --http to serve the MCP endpoint at /mcp.
Because the documented dataset is stored locally, the server does not require network access during normal use. It also needs no API key and no user account. The README separately identifies an Apify Actor containing the same anime figure price data and says that Actor is refreshed on a schedule; that managed dataset is distinct from the local MCP server runtime.
Queries use a figure name as the main input. Historical results are returned oldest first, and the history tool accepts an optional result limit whose default is 50.
Setup and configuration
Install the server through Smithery with:
smithery install @atushi1841/japan-anime-figure-mcp
An npm-based Smithery command is also documented:
npx @smithery/cli install atushi1841/japan-anime-figure-mcp
For a source checkout, the documented runtime requires fastmcp>=3.0.0, listed in requirements.txt. The repository also includes an manifest.json that follows MCPB v0.4 and can be packaged with the MCPB tooling. No environment variables are documented as required.
Tools and capabilities
The japan-anime-figure-mcp MCP server exposes three tools:
figure_current_price(name) returns the latest available price snapshot for a named figure.
figure_price_history(name, limit=50) returns the figureโs price time series, ordered from oldest to newest. The limit argument controls how many records are requested.
figure_lowest_price(name) finds the cheapest available price across the shops represented in the dataset.
These tools support price research, historical comparison, and identifying the lowest listed amount in the available data. They are read-only and do not update the source file or interact with retailers.
Limitations and notes
Results depend on the figures and observations present in the bundled normalized JSONL file. The README does not document fuzzy matching, a figure identifier format, currency conversion, shipping costs, taxes, stock verification, or purchase links. The lowest-price result should therefore be interpreted as the cheapest available value represented by the collected shop data, not as a live checkout quote.
The project is registered in the Smithery Registry and the official MCP Registry. The README specifically mentions Claude Desktop and Cursor as clients with registry usage examples; it does not describe client-specific tool behavior or configuration beyond installation options.
