Overview

EasyEDA Copilot MCP server connects MCP-capable agents to native schematic and PCB documents in EasyEDA Pro or JLCEDA. An EasyEDA extension communicates with a local MCP bridge, allowing agents to inspect open projects and modify editable design objects. Reach for it when you want agent-assisted circuit creation, schematic organization, constraint-based placement, routing, or design checks inside the desktop editor. The workflow requires EasyEDA Pro Desktop, Node.js 20.19 or newer, and an MCP client such as Codex or Claude Code.

How EasyEDA Copilot works

What EasyEDA Copilot does

EasyEDA Copilot links MCP clients with live EasyEDA Pro design documents, covering both schematics and PCBs. Its focus is engineering work inside native project files rather than generating a rendered illustration or an exported mockup. Resulting components, tracks, vias, copper zones, and other supported objects remain editable in EasyEDA.

Schematic workflows can inspect the current page, create circuits, complete designs, reorganize existing pages into functional blocks, and annotate designators across multiple pages. The component workflow resolves EasyEDA parts using either a manufacturer part number or a part UUID.

For PCB work, the server supports board geometry and placement based on functional groupings, modules, pin proximity, ordered signal paths, board edges, keepouts, mounting holes, thermal pads, and existing objects. Routing features include net classes, signal and power nets, copper planes, differential pairs, matched groups, fanout, impedance intent, selective rerouting, and via stitching.

How it works

Install the EasyEDA extension in EasyEDA Pro, enable external interactions, and register the MCP package with a compatible client. When a project is open, the extension discovers the local MCP bridge automatically. The agent can then inspect the currently open schematic or PCB and begin operations through MCP.

The extension includes a control under Copilot -> MCP that pauses or resumes the connection. Checkpoint-backed workflows support document recovery during design changes. Inspection features can render layer-aware PCB previews, highlight nets and components, and report details such as routed lengths, track widths, layers, vias, pads, polygons, nearby components, and unrouted connections. Native EasyEDA design-rule checking is also part of the workflow.

Setup and configuration

Requirements are EasyEDA Pro Desktop, Node.js 20.19 or newer, and an MCP-capable client. Codex can register the server with:

To install the desktop extension, download the latest .eext package from the project releases, then open Settings -> Extensions -> Extensions Manager in EasyEDA Pro. Choose Import Extensions, select the package, and enable External Interactions.

After starting the MCP client, open the target schematic or PCB in EasyEDA Pro. Ask the agent to inspect the open project before beginning a design workflow. Generic MCP configuration and local builds use the package documentation. A separate standalone skill can be built from the repository with npm ci, npm run build:skill, and a production dependency install in skill/scripts/runtime; skill archives are not included in releases.

The standalone skill is a separate installation path and must be built locally rather than downloaded from the releases page. Demonstrated designs include RF, ESP32-C3, and MIMXRT1011 controller workflows, as well as schematic beautification.
