What Cheapest Domains does
Cheapest Domains MCP server gives an AI assistant access to domain research based on the public Cheapest Domains service. It focuses on the ongoing cost of keeping a domain rather than treating the first-year registration price as the main comparison. Results can include annual renewal prices, separate initial registration prices, multi-year estimates, exact-name availability, source dates, comparison links, and registrar destinations.
The integration also includes domain-research instructions for agent clients. The assistant can suggest names from a project brief, preferred style, and budget, then check those suggestions within the service's limits. Users can request unchecked brainstorming when they do not want proposed names sent to checking providers.
How it works
The remote MCP connection uses Streamable HTTP at https://cheapest.domains/mcp and requires no authentication. The same public service is also available through a REST API. The bundled skill supplies instructions for using the research service, while the MCP connection provides the remote integration; installing only the skill does not create an MCP connection.
Cheapest Domains MCP server compares selected registrars rather than claiming complete market coverage. Research should preserve source dates and account for stale or partial coverage, premium pricing uncertainty, and minimum-term requirements. Availability is a temporary result and does not reserve a domain.
Setup and configuration
For Codex, add the repository as a plugin marketplace and install cheapest-domains@cheapest-domains. For Claude Code, add the same marketplace and install the corresponding plugin, then start a new Codex chat or reload Claude's plugins. Claude Code users can invoke /cheapest-domains:domain-research; Codex users can ask to use the Cheapest Domains domain-research skill.
The skill can also be installed by running npx skills add igalil/cheapest-domains-integrations --skill domain-research. This option installs instructions only. When using Cursor or another compatible client, configure the remote MCP endpoint through the client's MCP settings and follow the public setup guide if needed. No account, API key, local service, installation hook, or repository-provided application server is required.
Tools and capabilities
Cheapest Domains MCP server supports research tasks including:
- Comparing renewal prices across selected registrars
- Showing registration prices separately from renewal costs
- Estimating supported multi-year costs
- Checking exact-name availability
- Returning registrar destinations and comparison links
- Preserving source timestamps for price and availability results
- Supporting name research from a project description, style, and budget
Purchases remain with the registrar. The integration supplies evidence for research rather than performing transactions.
Limitations and notes
The service does not cover the entire registrar market, and pricing or availability may be stale, partial, uncertain, or subject to minimum terms. Exact-name checks can send the requested domain to the service and its checking providers. Query URLs may appear in hosting logs, so users should review the service privacy policy and terms before sending sensitive inputs.
Cheapest Domains MCP server cannot buy, register, transfer, or renew domains. Radar popularity data represents DNS activity; it is not a measure of SEO competition or domain availability. The radar data has a separate CC BY-NC 4.0 license. The integration files, documentation, and marketplace catalogs are MIT licensed, but that license does not cover the private hosted application or server source, trademark rights, or third-party data terms.
