How Agent Commerce MCP works

What agent-commerce-mcp does

The agent-commerce-mcp MCP server exposes an agent-facing storefront for products in the Halverson IQ portfolio. Its catalog includes SaaS products, developer tools, services, and MCP servers, along with bundles and cross-sell relationships. The listed catalog contains 14 SaaS, development, and service products and 9 MCP servers.

Agents can use the server to find products, ask for recommendations based on a problem, compare several products, inspect pricing, and retrieve free-tier access instructions. For MCP products, the server can return installation snippets for Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, Cline, and Windsurf.

Purchase-related functions include generating Stripe or Gumroad checkout URLs and passing a referral code to credit an affiliate. The server also supports affiliate registration, commission and tier lookup, partnership proposals, vendor verification, trust-score retrieval, and bundle-oriented cross-sells. These capabilities place the project in the 🛒 E-Commerce category and make it relevant when an agent needs to move from product discovery to a purchase or referral.

How it works

The agent-commerce-mcp MCP server is implemented in TypeScript and supports both stdio and Streamable HTTP transports. Public read-only tools are available anonymously by default. Catalog resources expose all products, category-specific collections, individual products, bundles, and affiliate-program information through commerce:// URIs. The server also provides prompts for pitches and objection handling.

State-changing tools are gated by a write token. When configured, clients authenticate HTTP requests with either a bearer token or the X-Agent-Commerce-API-Key header. Without that token, checkout creation, affiliate registration, partnership requests, and consultation requests are not advertised and reject direct calls.

The remote HTTP deployment applies per-client request limits and limits active sessions in memory. Its client identity is based on the direct socket IP unless TRUST_PROXY=true is set for a deployment with exactly one trusted reverse-proxy hop.

Setup and configuration

For local clients, install through npm with npx -y agent-commerce-mcp. Claude Desktop, Cursor, and Cline use an MCP configuration entry with that command. Claude Code can add it with claude mcp add commerce npx -y agent-commerce-mcp. A remote Streamable HTTP endpoint is available at https://commerce.halversonco.com/mcp.

Set AGENT_COMMERCE_WRITE_TOKEN to enable stateful operations. MCP_WRITE_TOKEN is supported as a legacy alternative. Set SALESBOT_LEAD_CAPTURE_URL to enable opt-in product consultation capture; consultation requests fail closed when it is absent. Use TRUST_PROXY=true only behind one trusted proxy hop.

Tools and capabilities

  • Search, recommend, and compare catalog products.
  • Retrieve pricing, free-tier access, and MCP installation instructions.
  • Create checkout URLs for supported products and pass affiliate referrals.
  • Register affiliates and inspect commission rates, tracking, and tier benefits.
  • Submit partnership proposals and retrieve related products or bundles.
  • Check AgentTrust reputation data and vendor policies.

Limitations and notes

The catalog and its products are defined by the server’s data files, so results are limited to listed offerings. Write operations require explicit configuration and authentication. Consultation capture requires both an opt-in request and a configured Salesbot capture URL. Remote deployments are subject to request and session limits. The repository is licensed under MIT.
