What Zensei Index MCP server does
The Zensei Index MCP server gives MCP-compatible clients read-only access to the Zensei Index, a 0β100 risk score for the U.S. stock market. The score is interpreted in the opposite direction from a health score: lower values indicate healthier conditions, while higher values indicate greater market risk.
The score bands are Supportive from 0β20, Vulnerable from 20β40, Stressed from 40β70, and Restrictive from 70β100. A rising score signals deteriorating conditions. The service also exposes the ten indicators used to calculate the index, their statuses, scoring layers, weights, and explanations.
How it works
The Zensei Index MCP server runs on zensei.com and communicates through Streamable HTTP. It does not require authentication and does not modify data. The repository contains server metadata; the live MCP endpoint is hosted by Zensei.
Start with zensei_index_about to retrieve the index explanation and interpretation rules. Then use zensei_index_today for the current final score, regime label, and scores for structural conditions, tactical filters, and regime confirmations. zensei_index_indicators provides the detail needed to explain the current result.
The indicator statuses range from Clear or Inactive, through Watch and Stress, to Activated or Danger. Calibrating means there is not yet enough data, while Unknown means no data is available. The zensei_index_summary tool returns the latest written commentary, along with the score and regime associated with that commentary.
Setup and configuration
Connect an MCP client to:
https://www.zensei.com/mcp
Use Streamable HTTP as the transport. No environment variables or credentials are required. Claude Code can add the endpoint with claude mcp add --transport http zensei https://www.zensei.com/mcp. Claude app supports adding it as a custom connector, while Cursor and VS Code can define the same URL in their MCP configuration files.
Other MCP clients can use the endpoint directly if they support Streamable HTTP. The repository also includes plugin metadata for Grok Build and Claude Code plugins.
Tools and capabilities
zensei_index_about: Explains what the index measures, how to read its score, and how it is constructed.
zensei_index_today: Returns the current score, regime, and three component layer scores.
zensei_index_indicators: Lists all ten indicators with status, layer, weight, and website explanation.
zensei_index_summary: Returns the latest written market summary, including its date and whether it is stale.
The zensei://index/about resource provides the index explanation as a Markdown document. For current numeric output, prefer zensei_index_today; use the summary only after checking its stale and ageDays values.
Limitations and notes
The Zensei Index MCP server provides today's data only and does not offer historical series. A written summary may be older than the current score because it is rewritten only when indicators change. The service is informational and is not investment advice. The repository is licensed under MIT.
