YuChenSSR/mindmap-mcp-server MCP server turns Markdown into interactive mindmaps rendered as HTML. Markdown headings and list structure provide the hierarchy used by the visualization. The generated result can be previewed as HTML in a client artifact or opened in a browser when saved to disk.
The project uses the markmap-cli library and supports two output styles:
The file-oriented option is useful for larger maps because the client does not need to receive the entire HTML document in its response. Generated mindmaps can also be configured to show or hide the toolbar, and the project lists an option for creating offline-capable mindmaps.
An MCP client sends Markdown text to one of the server's conversion tools. For content output, the server creates an interactive HTML mindmap and returns that document. For file output, it writes the generated HTML to a destination and reports the resulting path. The file tool accepts an optional filename; without one, the server generates a timestamp-based name.
The Docker image exposes the same two tool patterns. markdown-to-mindmap-content accepts required Markdown and an optional toolbar boolean, which defaults to true. markdown-to-mindmap-file accepts required Markdown, an optional filename, and the same toolbar setting. Docker users must mount a host directory at /output when they want files written outside the container.
YuChenSSR/mindmap-mcp-server MCP server can be installed from PyPI with pip install mindmap-mcp-server, or launched with uvx mindmap-mcp-server. A client configuration can add uvx as the command and pass mindmap-mcp-server plus --return-type html or --return-type filePath. The latter is the documented choice when the client should receive a path instead of the full HTML.
When launched with Python or uvx, Node.js is also required. A Python configuration can point directly to the repository's mindmap_mcp_server/server.py, but the example path must be replaced with a real local path. Docker users can pull ychen94/mindmap-converter-mcp and run it with an input-enabled container plus an /output volume mount.
The server implements MCP version 1.0 and is documented for Claude Desktop and other MCP-compatible clients. After changing a Claude Desktop configuration, restart the application and check its logs if the server does not appear.
The documented capabilities are:
--return-type.The README reports successful testing of the three installation approaches on macOS and Linux. Windows users may encounter issues with command-line setups and are directed toward Docker as an alternative. Docker file output depends on a correctly mounted host directory, valid platform-specific paths, and permission for Docker to access that directory. The server does not provide a hosted endpoint or describe authentication requirements.
