What the Widely MCP server does
Widely MCP server connects compatible AI clients to the Widely communications platform. The available capability areas are represented by the project’s marketplace keywords: phone calls, SMS, voicemail, and transcripts. This makes the server relevant for agents that need to work with communications data or actions in a Widely account.
The service is hosted by Widely at https://mcp.widely-mobile.com/mcp. Clients authenticate with a Widely login through OAuth. The repository does not describe a local server process or an API-key-based authentication flow.
How it works
An MCP-compatible client connects to the shared remote endpoint. During connection or first use, the client completes Widely OAuth and grants access through the user’s Widely account. Authentication is account-based, so each person connects with their own Widely login rather than supplying a manually generated API key.
Cursor uses the repository as a plugin source, while Claude Connectors and ChatGPT use the same remote URL with OAuth. Gemini CLI can install the repository as an extension and opens a browser for Widely OAuth on first tool use. Cline also connects directly to the hosted endpoint and should not run a local installation from this repository.
Setup and configuration
For remote clients, configure the MCP endpoint as:
https://mcp.widely-mobile.com/mcp
Complete the Widely OAuth flow when prompted. No API key is required. Gemini CLI provides this installation command:
gemini extensions install https://github.com/Swift-Mobile-Solutions-Dev/widely-mcp
After installation, the first Gemini tool use opens a browser for OAuth through Dynamic Client Registration. Cline requires adding the remote URL and completing Widely OAuth according to llms-install.md. Cursor uses the plugin metadata in the repository, including .cursor-plugin/plugin.json and mcp.json.
Tools and capabilities
The documented capability areas are:
- Phone calls
- SMS messages
- Voicemail
- Transcripts
The supplied material does not specify individual tool names, argument schemas, return formats, or permission scopes. Check the linked Widely MCP documentation for those details before building an agent workflow.
Limitations and notes
The Widely MCP server is hosted rather than installed locally from this repository. Cline users are explicitly instructed not to perform a local installation. Access depends on a Widely account and the OAuth connection flow. The project also provides a privacy-policy link covering AI connections and lists info@widely-mobile.com for support.
Client submission requirements differ: Claude Connectors and ChatGPT require the remote URL, OAuth details, documentation URL, privacy URL, and logo, and their submissions require the Widely publisher login. The repository itself does not document offline operation, API-key authentication, or detailed tool behavior.
