Weather Gc Ca provides MCP access to official Canadian environmental data published through Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) GeoMet and the Water Survey of Canada. Its tools cover both point-based lookups and station-specific records.

The package can return recent surface observations from nearby weather stations, including temperature, dewpoint, humidity, wind, pressure, snow depth, station name, and observation time. It can also retrieve active Canadian alerts with alert type, risk colour, affected area, province, validity period, and a text excerpt.

For historical analysis, climate_daily returns daily maximum, minimum, and mean temperatures, precipitation totals, and snow depth for a climate station and date range. Climate station identifiers are seven-digit values, such as the documented Toronto and Vancouver examples.

Hydrology features identify nearby official river and lake gauges, then retrieve recent water level and discharge readings. The real-time tool normally covers the previous 30 days, with readings commonly updated every 5–15 minutes.

How it works

The MCP tools accept geographic coordinates for nearby-station searches and some real-time lookups. A typical hydrology workflow is to call hydrometric_stations_near, select a station number, then pass that number to hydrometric_realtime. The latter can also locate recent readings by latitude and longitude.

geomet_collections lists the datasets available through MSC GeoMet, including collection IDs, titles, descriptions, keywords, and geographic extents. Use it to discover relevant weather, water, air-quality, or climate-projection collections before selecting a specialized tool.

The gateway endpoint also exposes shared Pipeworx meta-tools, so its tools/list response contains more tools than the six pack-specific tools. The local package exposes only this pack’s tools.

Setup and configuration

The Weather Gc Ca MCP server can be added to an MCP client with the streamable HTTP URL https://gateway.pipeworx.io/weather-gc-ca/mcp. The README names Claude Desktop, Cursor, and Windsurf as supported connection targets.

For a local stdio deployment, run npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-weather-gc-ca, or configure an MCP client with npx as the command and -y @pipeworx/mcp-weather-gc-ca as its arguments. This mode does not use the gateway and does not include shared Pipeworx meta-tools.
