What wazionapps/mcp-server MCP server does

The wazionapps/mcp-server MCP server connects an MCP-compatible AI client to WAzion, a WhatsApp Business platform. It exposes 244 tools organized across operational areas such as messaging, mass marketing, automations, customer records, conversations, support agents, analytics, storage, plugins, settings, and integrations.

The tool set supports both day-to-day WhatsApp work and broader business operations. An assistant can send messages, inspect conversation history, check session state, manage contacts and tags, create automated replies, run campaigns, review activity metrics, configure AI behavior, and work with customer-linked tasks or calendar events. The available functions also include webhooks, custom functions, CRM endpoints, Shopify-related settings, knowledge-base documents, and referral information.

How it works

The wazionapps/mcp-server MCP server can be used through two transports. The recommended option is Streamable HTTP, which connects an MCP client directly to https://www.wazion.com/api/mcp/. Clients send a bearer token containing the WAzion API key. This approach does not require a local package installation.

For clients that only support stdio, the npm package runs locally as a bridge to the WAzion endpoint. The process requires Node.js 18 or newer and reads its credentials from the environment. The API URL can be changed for a self-hosted deployment.

Operations that change or remove data may require confirmation. The first request returns a warning, and the action is completed only after a follow-up call sets confirm: true.

Setup and configuration

Create a WAzion account, connect a WhatsApp number by scanning its QR code, and copy the API key from Settings > Developer. For HTTP clients, configure the endpoint and send the key as an Authorization: Bearer header. The README provides configurations for Claude Desktop, Cursor, and Windsurf/VS Code, as well as a Claude Code HTTP command and a ChatGPT Streamable HTTP connection.

For stdio clients, run:

WAZION_API_KEY is required. WAZION_API_URL is optional and defaults to the hosted WAzion MCP endpoint; set it when targeting a self-hosted installation. The API key identifies the WAzion shop and its configuration.

Limitations and notes

A valid WAzion API key and an active account are required. WhatsApp sending also depends on a connected WhatsApp session, sufficient account credits, and phone numbers supplied with a country code. HTTP clients need network access to the configured endpoint. For stdio use, Node.js 18 or newer is required.

The package is a client-facing bridge to WAzion's MCP endpoint rather than a standalone WhatsApp service. Self-hosted deployments must expose a compatible MCP endpoint and be selected through WAZION_API_URL.
