What Virgin Islands Code does
The Virgin Islands Code MCP server exposes the 2026 edition of the US Virgin Islands statutes through three focused tools. vi_statute retrieves a section by citation and returns its heading, full statutory text, and trailing history line. Citation parsing accepts formats such as 14 V.I.C. § 922, 14 VIC 922, V.I. Code Ann. tit. 14, § 922, and Title 14, Section 922.
vi_search searches within one specified title. All query words must occur in a section heading or its text; heading matches appear first, followed by code order. Results include citations, headings, and snippets. vi_titles lists all 37 titles, including 11A, 12A, and 15A, with their official names and section counts. This can help route a subject to the relevant title before searching.
The source contains 12,420 sections across the 2026 edition. The Virgin Islands Code MCP server is listed in the Legal category and is intended for statute retrieval and text search, not for legal conclusions or professional legal advice.
How it works
The tools retrieve content from USVI Public Records, which publishes the Virgin Islands Code as readable title pages. Requests are made per use rather than by copying the full code in bulk. Search therefore requires a title parameter instead of searching all titles at once.
A missing title, unavailable section, or search with no match returns found: false, a reason, and data_as_of. An upstream problem, such as a timeout, non-404 response, or changed page structure, is reported as an error instead of being treated as a normal miss. Some source headings may include edition text such as “v2”; returned headings preserve the published form.
Setup and configuration
You can connect through the Pipeworx MCP gateway at https://gateway.pipeworx.io/virgin-islands-code/mcp. The gateway connection is keyless and also exposes shared Pipeworx meta-tools, including routing and discovery tools. Alternatively, connect to the full gateway at https://gateway.pipeworx.io/mcp.
For a local process, run npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-virgin-islands-code. The package communicates over stdin and stdout and exposes only the Virgin Islands Code tools, without the gateway's shared meta-tools. No Pipeworx account or environment variable is required for this standalone mode. The gateway also provides HTTP tool calls, including POST /v1/tools/vi_statute.
Tools and capabilities
- Retrieve full statute text by citation with
vi_statute.
- Search for keywords within one title using
vi_search and an optional result limit.
- Enumerate title names and section counts with
vi_titles.
- Use
ask_pipeworx through the gateway to route plain-language questions across the wider Pipeworx catalog.
- Receive explicit not-found responses for invalid titles, missing sections, and searches without matches.
Limitations and notes
The Virgin Islands Code MCP server depends on the upstream USVI Public Records pages and their published 2026 edition. It does not provide per-section pages; title pages contain the sections. Searches are limited to one title per call, and the tool does not claim to interpret the law.
The gateway endpoint lists additional shared tools, so its tool count is larger than the three pack-specific tools. The local stdio package does not include those shared tools. The integration is independent and unofficial, with no stated affiliation with the upstream publisher.
