What Valmera — agentic AI video editor MCP server does

Valmera — agentic AI video editor connects an MCP-compatible assistant to projects and uploaded footage in Valmera Studio. The service can analyze recordings, create transcript-driven edits, add burned-in captions, change the frame layout, insert media, and export a reviewed result. It works with MP4, MOV, M4V, MKV, and WebM files up to 14 GB and three hours per file.

The editing workflow covers dead-air and filler-word removal, transcript searches, range cuts, vertical reframing, shorts creation, b-roll and stock media, emphasis zooms, music, sound effects, color grading, region blurring, burned-in text removal, website recordings, and cursor enhancement. Preview rendering and frame inspection are available before final export.

How it works

Connect an MCP client to https://valmera.io/mcp/server using Streamable HTTP. Authentication uses OAuth 2.1 with dynamic client registration and PKCE S256, or a bearer token obtained through Valmera. After footage is uploaded in Studio, imported from a link, or sent with upload_start and upload_finish, Valmera indexes the file and reports progress through index_status.

Tool calls create new versions in a non-destructive edit decision list. The source file remains unchanged, and cuts can be restored. Long-running operations return a job ID; the client uses wait_for_job to monitor completion. render_preview, watch_video, and look_at support review, while export_final creates a full-resolution H.264 MP4 and download_url provides the result.

Setup and configuration

Add the hosted endpoint to a supported client using the setup instructions at valmera.io/mcp/setup. Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Claude Desktop, and ChatGPT have documented connection methods. A client that only accepts stdio can use mcp-remote with npx to bridge to the HTTP endpoint.

Sign-in is required. Creating an account and uploading are free, but editing requires a subscription. The MCP client provider charges separately. The repository also includes a Claude plugin with skills for general editing, turning long videos into shorts, and making website demo videos.

Tools and capabilities

The live server card dated October 6, 2026 lists 143 tools: 129 editing tools across nine groups and 14 session tools. Notable tool families include:

Limitations and notes

Valmera — agentic AI video editor is not a text-to-video generator. It does not import or export SRT or VTT files; captions are burned into the video. The documented limitations also include no direct YouTube or TikTok publishing, team collaboration, custom font uploads, true crossfade or dissolve transitions, motion-tracked stickers, audio denoise, or AI music generation.

Editing the same project in Studio and through MCP at the same time is refused. Instructions, tool arguments, project data, sampled frames, previews, and download links are sent between the client and Valmera over HTTPS; footage remains in the Valmera account and the original upload is not modified.
