Overview

uiule exposes Bible API access through MCP for retrieving individual verses, passages, and random scripture. Its tools support verse references, multiple translations for passages, and structured metadata such as references and verse numbers. Connect through the hosted HTTPS endpoint, use the local npm stdio bridge, or call individual tools over HTTP. No account is required for anonymous use, although anonymous calls are limited to 50 per day.

Use cases

  • Look up a verse by book, chapter, and verse reference
  • Retrieve passages in different Bible translations
  • Generate a random World English Bible verse
  • Add Bible lookup to an MCP-enabled agent
  • Call scripture tools from an HTTP workflow

Key features

  • Verse and verse-range lookup
  • Multi-translation passage retrieval
  • Random WEB verse generation
  • Hosted MCP and local stdio access
  • Direct HTTP tool calls
  • Optional Pipeworx gateway routing

How Uiule works

What uiule does

uiule connects MCP clients and HTTP callers to Bible API data from bible-api.com. It focuses on three scripture lookup operations: retrieving a verse or range, retrieving a passage in a selected translation, and selecting a random verse from the World English Bible (WEB).

The integration is an independent, unofficial connection and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or published by the upstream Bible API provider. It is useful for agents that need direct Bible text rather than a general web search, including reference lookup, passage comparison, and scripture-based prompts.

How it works

A hosted MCP endpoint is available at https://gateway.pipeworx.io/bible/mcp. An MCP client connects to that URL and can invoke the Bible tools directly. The same gateway also exposes a full endpoint at https://gateway.pipeworx.io/mcp; the Bible endpoint lists this pack's tools directly while still making gateway-wide routing available through shared Pipeworx tools.

For clients or workflows that do not use MCP, individual tools can be called through the Pipeworx HTTP API. For example, POST https://gateway.pipeworx.io/v1/tools/bible_get_verse accepts a JSON body containing a reference value.

Setup and configuration

Add the hosted URL to an MCP client's server configuration:

config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "bible": {
      "url": "https://gateway.pipeworx.io/bible/mcp"
    }
  }
}

A local stdio option is available through the @pipeworx/mcp-bible npm package. The client starts it with npx, and the bridge forwards requests to the hosted gateway. It requires network access and does not provide offline operation.

config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "bible": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@pipeworx/mcp-bible"]
    }
  }
}

Anonymous use requires no key and allows up to 50 calls per day. A free Pipeworx account increases the allowance to 200 calls daily; set PIPEWORX_API_KEY in the server entry to authenticate. Setting PIPEWORX_META_TOOLS=1 adds shared gateway tools to the local bridge's tool list. When running behind an HTTPS proxy, newer Node.js versions can use proxy environment settings when NODE_USE_ENV_PROXY=1 is enabled.

Tools and capabilities

  • get_verse accepts a reference such as john 3:16, romans 8:28, or psalm 23:1-6. It returns text in the World English Bible translation.
  • get_passage retrieves a complete passage in a selected translation. Supported examples include KJV, WEB, OEB, BBE, Cherokee, and DRA, with reference and translation metadata in the response.
  • random_verse returns a random WEB verse, including its reference, text, translation ID, and per-verse book, chapter, and verse details.

The gateway's ask_pipeworx tool can also accept a plain-English question and select and populate an appropriate tool automatically when the shared meta-tools are available.

Limitations and notes

The local bridge forwards every request to the hosted gateway, so it cannot operate without network access. Anonymous access is rate-limited to 50 calls per day, while an authenticated free account receives a 200-call daily allowance. Gateway calls are metered and billed in the same way as hosted connections when a key is used. The endpoint may list shared Pipeworx meta-tools in addition to the Bible tools, and its exact tool scope is reported during MCP initialization.

Frequently Asked Questions about Uiule

uiule is an MCP server that connects AI agents to the Bible API through Pipeworx. Its main tools are get_verse for references and ranges, get_passage for translated passages, and random_verse for random World English Bible text with reference and verse metadata. It requires no API key for anonymous use.

Install it by adding the hosted MCP URL or launching the npm stdio bridge with npx. Use `https://gateway.pipeworx.io/bible/mcp` for a remote connection, or configure `npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-bible`; the local bridge still needs network access.

No, uiule can run anonymously without an API key. Anonymous use is limited to 50 calls per day; adding `PIPEWORX_API_KEY` from a free Pipeworx account raises the allowance to 200 calls per day.

The `get_passage` tool supports multiple translations, including KJV, WEB, OEB, BBE, Cherokee, and DRA. `get_verse` and `random_verse` return World English Bible text.
