What TubePull MCP server does

TubePull MCP server connects an MCP-compatible AI assistant to media hosted on YouTube, TikTok, Twitter/X, Vimeo, Twitch, Streamable, Dailymotion, SoundCloud, Bandcamp, and Mixcloud. It handles one video or track at a time and does not support playlists, albums, sets, channels, or profile pages.

The service exposes two MCP tools. get_video_info retrieves details without using download quota, including title, creator or channel, duration, view count when available, upload date, thumbnail, description, available qualities, and YouTube license information. download_video prepares a file and returns its filename, selected format and quality, media title, creator, duration, and a signed download URL.

Use the service for content you are allowed to access offline, such as your own uploads, Creative Commons or public-domain material, lectures, podcasts, conference talks, or media covered by explicit permission. Checking metadata first can help an assistant surface the uploader and license before downloading.

How it works

The hosted endpoint is POST https://tubepull.com/mcp. It accepts JSON-RPC 2.0 requests using MCP protocol version 2024-11-05, so no local SDK, executable, or application source checkout is required. After a successful download request, the assistant gives the user a signed link. That link works once and expires after one hour.

TubePull MCP server uses mp4 as the default format. mp3 forces an MP3 transcode, m4a requests M4A audio, and audio selects M4A without transcoding when available. Video quality can be requested with values such as 360p, 480p, 720p, 1080p, 1440p, or 2160p; quality settings do not apply to audio formats or audio-only platforms.

SoundCloud, Bandcamp, and Mixcloud provide audio rather than video. Requests using MP4 for those services are changed to M4A, while MP3 remains available when explicitly selected.

Setup and configuration

Connect an MCP client to the endpoint URL. For Claude Desktop, the remote server can be added under mcpServers with a configuration like this:

Restart the client after saving the configuration. Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code, Cline, Continue, and Zed are also named as compatible clients. The live endpoint can be checked with an MCP initialize request, and its current schemas can be inspected with tools/list.

Tools and capabilities

• download_video(url, format?, quality?): downloads a single supported media URL and returns a temporary link plus file details.
• get_video_info(url): retrieves media metadata without consuming download quota.
• Supports video and audio retrieval from ten listed platforms.
• Provides MP4, MP3, M4A, and smart audio output modes.
• Offers higher video qualities when the account tier permits them.

Limitations and notes

Anonymous use is limited to three downloads per 24-hour period per MCP client, shared with the web frontend’s anonymous tier. The paid Unlimited plan is listed at $3.99 per month and removes that cap, enables 1440p and 4K video, and permits videos longer than two hours. The free tier does not provide those expanded limits.

The download quota applies to download_video, while get_video_info is free. 1440p and 2160p require Unlimited. Audio-only sources ignore video quality settings. The repository contains public integration documentation; the application source code is private. Use the service only for media that the user has the right to download.
