What does it do?

Enter a domain and get back the emails and subdomains connected to it, plus IPs, URLs and ASNs, pulled from 54+ public sources in parallel: crt.sh, HackerTarget, RapidDNS, CertSpotter, Shodan, Censys, VirusTotal, SecurityTrails, GitHub, DuckDuckGo and more. We auto-clean the domain you paste (so a full URL still works), normalize the output across sources, and return one clean dataset row per finding - ready for a CRM, a spreadsheet, or an OSINT pipeline.

Which inputs does it take?

Only the website is needed. Every other field has a working default, so typing just tesla.com gives a full run.

If something in your input is off, the run still works. A number out of range is brought into range, "yes"/"no" and numbers as text are read, unknown sources and typos in field names are skipped, and a feature missing its key is switched off. Each fix is written as a plain note in the log, the status message and the summary row's inputNotes. Only a missing or unusable website stops the run, before anything is charged.

Everything theHarvester reports comes through. Besides hosts, emails, IPs, URLs, ASNs, Shodan and people, any other result it finds (vhosts, Trello links, Twitter and LinkedIn people, LinkedIn links, takeover results) is a row under theHarvester's own name, with the finding in value. theHarvester's own files are saved unchanged in the run's key-value store: theharvester-output.txt (its full console output, which is where API-scan results appear), report.json, report.xml, and screenshots when turned on.

resolves tells you whether the subdomain answers in public DNS right now. Certificate logs also list retired and internal-only names; those come back with resolves: false. They are still useful for mapping a company's naming and history, and you can filter them out for a live-only list. The summary record's counts.liveHosts gives the total.

Common questions

Q: Does this scan actively? No. theHarvester is purely passive - it queries public data sources. Active scanning (DNS bruteforce, port scans) requires sibling actors nmap-scanner or active-mode tools.

Q: Which sources require API keys? The four defaults (crt.sh, HackerTarget, RapidDNS, CertSpotter) and 15+ other public sources are free. Premium sources like Shodan, Censys, SecurityTrails and Hunter need your own API key, added in the API keys section.

Q: Source missing? DM LinkedIn (linkedin.com/in/anshumanatrey). Custom source additions ship within 1-2 hours.

Q: My run found nothing - why? First check the domain is spelled correctly and is a real, public site. Enter just the domain (we auto-clean full URLs). Some domains simply have a small public footprint; selecting premium sources and adding their API keys widens coverage.

Q: Do I enter a full URL or just the domain? Just the domain, like itm.edu. If you paste a full link such as https://www.itm.edu/, we clean it to itm.edu automatically so the run still works.
