What Taoyuan Music MCP server does
Taoyuan Music MCP server gives an MCP-compatible assistant tools for creating and editing personalized songs. A user can describe who the song is for, the occasion, and relevant details; the service then produces a structured songwriting plan or a completed generation. A completed request can include lyrics, two full versions, and cover art.
The songwriting flow supports Chinese, Cantonese, English, and Japanese. Lyrics are created from the supplied story and organized into sections. The service also provides MCP prompts for scenarios such as birthdays, weddings, and podcast introductions, plus resources containing scene knowledge cards and track details.
How it works
The server is a proxy between an MCP client and the remote Music For You API. The packaged taoyuan-mcp command runs as a small stdio-to-Streamable-HTTP proxy, while clients that support remote MCP can connect directly to https://api.musicsforyou.com/mcp.
For a controlled workflow, first compile a request into a title, lyrics, and style. You can then revise that plan with instructions such as changing the chorus or voice before submitting it for generation. Generation returns an ID for the two-version job; get_generation can poll for completion and supports long-polling with waitSeconds. create_song combines the main steps and waits for the result, with a maximum wait of 180 seconds.
The API accepts either a TAOYUAN_API_KEY-backed bearer key or OAuth 2.1 with PKCE and dynamic client registration. API keys are limited to 10 calls per minute and 300 calls per day. A webhook endpoint can send an HMAC-signed generation.finished event.
Setup and configuration
For Claude Desktop and other local stdio clients, run the package with npx -y taoyuan-mcp and provide TAOYUAN_API_KEY. TAOYUAN_MCP_URL is an optional environment variable for overriding the default remote endpoint.
Remote MCP clients can use the hosted URL with a bearer authorization header. Claude.ai connectors and ChatGPT can use the same URL with built-in OAuth sign-in, according to the project documentation. Cursor supports a developer-page setup or an MCP configuration file, with OAuth sign-in on first use.
Create an API key through the Music For You developers page. New keys include three free credits. Standard generation costs one credit and returns two versions; compiling and revising do not consume credits. The repository also documents REST access at /v1/songs for clients that prefer an HTTP request.
Tools and capabilities
The Taoyuan Music MCP server exposes these operations:
create_song: Generate a song from a description, including lyrics, two versions, and cover art.
compile_music_prompt: Prepare a title, lyrics, and style for review before generation.
revise_generation_prompt: Modify an existing generation plan.
generate_music: Submit a plan and receive a generation ID.
get_generation: Check generation status, including with long-polling.
replace_section: Regenerate one section of a finished song.
separate_stems: Split vocals and instrumental audio; a 12-stem split requires Pro.
list_tracks, list_presets, get_credit_balance, and get_purchase_link: Access the library, presets, credit balance, and checkout link.
Limitations and notes
A complete generation consumes one credit, and replace_section also costs one credit. Stem separation is free once per song, while the 12-stem option requires a Pro plan. The combined creation operation can wait up to 180 seconds, so asynchronous generation with an ID and polling may be preferable for longer-running client workflows.
The documented rate limits apply per API key. Paid plans state that generated songs can be used commercially. The service supports API-key authentication or OAuth, but the available authentication method depends on the client connection mode.
