What StandardGraph does
StandardGraph provides MCP access to a large catalog of K-12 education standards. The repository describes 175,046 standards across 307 curriculum systems in more than 50 countries, covering Mathematics, Science, English Language Arts, Social Studies, Computer Science, Arts, and World Languages.
The main use is curriculum alignment. A developer or curriculum specialist can identify standards by concept, retrieve a known standard by ID, compare a standard with an equivalent in another system, or examine how a topic develops across grades. The catalog includes US national and state systems, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and curricula from countries including Singapore, Japan, Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, Brazil, India, and others.
Coverage is not uniform. International coverage is deepest in Mathematics, Science, and ELA. Social Studies is currently US-focused, while Computer Science, World Languages, and Arts have more limited coverage in the listed systems.
How it works
StandardGraph exposes its curriculum graph through MCP, allowing a compatible AI client to call tools during a conversation. Its documented tools are search_standards, lookup_standard, get_progression, get_learning_path, map_standard, and list_systems.
Search can match a described concept, while lookup handles a specific identifier such as CCSS.MATH.6.RP.A.3. Progression requests show how a topic changes across grade levels. Learning paths provide an ordered route through prerequisites for a target standard. Mapping requests find a corresponding standard in another curriculum or country, and list_systems reports the currently available systems.
Crosswalks have LLM-generated quality scores from 1 to 5. Results with low scores or embedding similarity below 0.75 are suppressed by default, and returned matches are ranked by alignment quality. Grade differences and scope differences still require review rather than being treated as definitive equivalence.
Setup and configuration
The hosted option requires no local installation or token. In Claude, open Settings, choose Connectors, select Add custom connector, and enter https://standardgraph.walkmakewalk.com/mcp.
For local or offline use, the provided installer downloads a pre-built database of approximately 850 MB, installs dependencies, and updates the Claude Desktop configuration. After running the repository's shell installer, Claude Desktop must be quit and reopened. The local setup runs against a copy of the database on the user's machine.
Ollama is optional. Installing it and pulling nomic-embed-text enables richer semantic matching; without it, the server falls back to keyword search. The repository also links to separate installation and quickstart guides.

Limitations and notes
StandardGraph is updated nightly, so the catalog count and system list can change. International subject coverage varies, and international Social Studies is identified as planned rather than currently available. The hosted service is described as suitable for trying the system and light use; the README recommends local installation for heavy or offline workloads. Semantic search depends on the optional Ollama setup, while keyword search remains available without it. Crosswalk scores indicate match quality but do not remove the need for expert verification when scope or grade placement differs.
The documented client setup centers on Claude. The material does not describe authentication variables, API keys, or a separate programmatic configuration interface.
