What Scaleway MCP server does

Scaleway MCP server provides an agent-facing way to interact with Scaleway APIs. Its repository is the Scaleway CLI, a terminal tool for managing Scaleway infrastructure, and the available API areas are organized into command namespaces.

The namespace set spans core compute and platform services: instance for servers, k8s for Kapsule Kubernetes, container and function for serverless workloads, and baremetal for Elastic Metal resources. It also includes lb for load balancers, flexibleip and ipam for network addressing, dns for domains and DNS, and object for object storage.

Data and platform services include rdb, mongodb, and redis for managed databases; registry for container images; secret for secret management; and mnq for messaging and queuing. Account, IAM, billing, Cockpit, IoT, Marketplace, Jobs, and Apple silicon namespaces provide additional Scaleway API coverage.

How it works

Commands are grouped by service namespace and accept resource-specific arguments. For example, the CLI can create and list instance servers, or create a Kubernetes cluster with a selected version, node type, pool size, CNI, and tags.

Scaleway authentication uses an API key made up of an access key and access secret. The scw init command creates a profile, configures authentication, and enables shell completion. Configuration can also be adjusted through environment variables, including SCW_ENABLE_BETA=1 for beta features.

Setup and configuration

Install the Scaleway CLI through Homebrew, Arch Linux packages, Chocolatey, a released binary, or the Docker image. macOS, GNU/Linux, and Windows binaries are available. The documented Docker invocation runs the CLI interactively and removes the container after exit.

After installation, run:

An API key must be created in the Scaleway web console before initialization. Profiles and configuration are managed by the CLI's config namespace. Environment variables can override configuration values, and SCW_ENABLE_BETA=1 enables beta functionality.
