What PrijsProfeet MCP server does
PrijsProfeet MCP server gives an MCP client access to supermarket data from Dutch and Belgian retail chains. The underlying API is refreshed nightly and covers promotions, product details, categories, and price information. Dutch data is available through the prijsprofeet.nl API host, while Belgian data uses prijsprofeet.be; the host determines the country.
The available data includes promotional prices, former prices, discount mechanics, validity dates, retailer names, categories, dietary labels, and EANs where provided by the retailer. Coverage includes more than twenty chains across both countries, including Albert Heijn, Aldi, Jumbo, Lidl, and other national or regional retailers.
The free API focuses on products and promotions rather than a complete assortment. Products that are not currently promoted are generally absent from free endpoints. Full assortment shelf prices are available through a paid endpoint.
How it works
The connector uses PrijsProfeet's API capabilities to answer product and supermarket questions. Supported API operations include fuzzy product search, paginated product retrieval, individual product lookup, top-deal retrieval by retailer, category listing, and incremental product changes. The change feed can support synchronization without downloading the full product set every time.
Deal records use a promotion_status value to distinguish current promotions from other prices. active means an offer is running now, upcoming means it starts later, shelf represents a current regular price, and historical is an older observed price. Applications comparing prices should filter these values instead of selecting the numerically lowest result without checking its status.
EAN availability varies by retailer. Where an EAN is not published, products may be associated using name, brand, and package information, with corresponding matching uncertainty.
Setup and configuration
The supplied material documents the PrijsProfeet API rather than MCP-client-specific installation steps. API searches, products, promotions, categories, change feeds, and prediction data can be used without a key. A free key is available for higher limits, while Pro and Business access requires a separate plan.
Requests should identify the calling application with a descriptive User-Agent header containing contact information. Dutch and Belgian data use different API hosts but the same endpoint structure and key model. Applications using the free or trial tiers must visibly credit PrijsProfeet wherever its data appears; Belgian data should link to https://www.prijsprofeet.be.
Tools and capabilities
PrijsProfeet MCP server is suitable for exposing these documented data operations to an agent:
- Search products with fuzzy matching, category filters, or dietary labels.
- Retrieve paginated products and individual product details.
- List top promotions, optionally restricted to a retailer.
- Enumerate product categories.
- Read incremental product changes using a cursor.
- Access all promotional products through the promotional listing endpoint.
- Use paid-plan data for cross-retailer EAN matching, full shelf prices, price history, shelf-price history, or private-label equivalents.
The free tier has limits per IP, or per key when a free key is used. Pro adds matching, complete shelf prices, and product price history. Business adds shelf-price history, private-label equivalents, a higher limit, and a stated 99.5% SLA.
Limitations and notes
PrijsProfeet MCP server should not be treated as a guaranteed complete grocery catalog when used with free endpoints. A recipe or shopping list may only match some ingredients, and the result can vary by week and retailer. Shelf-price data is a paid capability.
Promotion data can include offers that have not started or prices that are no longer promotional. Consumers of the data should honor promotion_status or use current_only=true where supported. Change cursors are retained for 30 days; an expired cursor requires a full resynchronization. The API documentation also notes that retailer EAN coverage changes when source data changes, so product linking should account for incomplete identifiers.
Commercial use is permitted on the free tier when the required visible attribution is provided. API prices and plan details are maintained on the PrijsProfeet website rather than fixed in this repository.
