Overview

Prayer Times MCP server connects AI clients to Islamic prayer and calendar data through the Aladhan API and Pipeworx gateway. Its tools return daily salah times, Qibla bearings, Gregorian-to-Hijri conversions, and monthly city calendars. Use it for location-based prayer lookups, Islamic date handling, or calendar queries in an MCP-compatible client. It supports hosted MCP over HTTPS, a local npx stdio bridge, and direct HTTP tool calls.

Use cases

  • Look up today’s salah times for a city
  • Calculate the Qibla bearing from coordinates
  • Convert Gregorian dates to Hijri dates
  • Build a monthly Islamic prayer calendar
  • Query prayer data through HTTP without an MCP client

Key features

  • Daily prayer times by city or coordinates
  • Qibla direction in degrees from true north
  • Gregorian-to-Hijri date conversion
  • Monthly city prayer calendars
  • Hosted MCP, local stdio, and HTTP access
  • Keyless anonymous access

How Prayer Times works

What Prayer Times does

Prayer Times exposes Islamic prayer and calendar functions through the Model Context Protocol. Its data is provided through the Aladhan API and made available through the Pipeworx gateway. The integration is independent and unofficial, and it does not require an API key for basic anonymous use.

The server covers four focused operations:

  • Retrieve today’s prayer schedule for a city and country or for latitude and longitude.
  • Calculate the Qibla bearing from a latitude and longitude.
  • Convert a Gregorian date into its Hijri equivalent.
  • Retrieve a city’s monthly Islamic prayer calendar.

Daily prayer results include Fajr, Sunrise, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha, Imsak, and Midnight, along with Gregorian and Hijri dates, timezone information, and the calculation method. Monthly calendar entries include Gregorian and Hijri dates plus Fajr, Dhuhr, Maghrib, and Isha times.

How it works

A hosted MCP connection can use the scoped endpoint at https://gateway.pipeworx.io/prayer-times/mcp. The same service can also be reached through the full Pipeworx gateway at https://gateway.pipeworx.io/mcp. Pack endpoints list the Prayer Times tools directly and also expose shared Pipeworx meta-tools, including ask_pipeworx, discover_tools, search_within, and memory-related tools. The ask_pipeworx tool can route a natural-language request to the appropriate catalog tool.

For clients without MCP support, the gateway provides HTTP access. For example, POST https://gateway.pipeworx.io/v1/tools/prayer_times accepts a JSON request such as { "city": "London", "country": "UK" }. Tool schemas can be inspected with the corresponding HTTP endpoint.

Setup and configuration

For a hosted connection, add the MCP URL to a compatible client:

config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "prayer-times": {
      "url": "https://gateway.pipeworx.io/prayer-times/mcp"
    }
  }
}

The npm package provides a local stdio bridge:

config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "prayer-times": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@pipeworx/mcp-prayer-times"]
    }
  }
}

The bridge forwards requests to the hosted gateway and requires network access. Anonymous use is available with a limit of 50 calls per day. A free Pipeworx account increases the limit to 200 calls per day; its key can be supplied as PIPEWORX_API_KEY. Set PIPEWORX_META_TOOLS=1 if the local bridge should list the gateway-wide meta-tools as well as the Prayer Times tools. When using an HTTPS proxy, NODE_USE_ENV_PROXY=1 may be needed for newer Node releases to honor HTTPS_PROXY.

Tools and capabilities

prayer_times accepts either city and country or geographic coordinates and returns the day’s timings, calendar dates, timezone, and calculation method.

qibla calculates the direction toward the Kaaba in Mecca as degrees from true north using latitude and longitude.

convert_to_hijri handles Gregorian-to-Hijri date conversion.

hijri_calendar returns a city’s monthly calendar with daily Gregorian and Hijri dates and selected salah times.

Limitations and notes

The npm bridge is online-only and has no offline mode. Anonymous calls are capped at 50 per day, while a free account raises the allowance to 200 calls per day. Hosted and local connections use the Pipeworx gateway. The integration is independent and unofficial rather than affiliated with, endorsed by, or published by the upstream provider.

Frequently Asked Questions about Prayer Times

Prayer Times is an MCP server that connects AI clients to the Aladhan API through the Pipeworx gateway and exposes prayer_times, qibla, convert_to_hijri, and hijri_calendar. It provides daily salah times, Qibla bearings, Hijri date conversions, and monthly Islamic prayer calendars.

Run it through the npm stdio bridge with `npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-prayer-times`, or add the hosted MCP URL `https://gateway.pipeworx.io/prayer-times/mcp` to your client configuration. The bridge forwards requests to the Pipeworx gateway and requires network access.

Yes, Prayer Times works with Cursor through its hosted MCP endpoint or local npx stdio configuration. Add the server URL to Cursor for a remote connection, or configure the `npx` command and package for a local bridge.

No, an API key is not required for basic anonymous use. Anonymous access is limited to 50 calls per day; a free Pipeworx account and `PIPEWORX_API_KEY` increase the allowance to 200 calls per day.

Send a POST request to `https://gateway.pipeworx.io/v1/tools/prayer_times` with JSON arguments such as `{"city":"London","country":"UK"}`. Tool details can be inspected through the corresponding gateway endpoint.
