Overview

  • mcp
  • performance-review
  • text-generation
  • pipeworx

Performance Review MCP server generates satirical corporate performance reviews from structured employee and manager inputs. Its main tool accepts an employee name, role, rating, actual performance, and the manager’s intended message, then returns intentionally vague review text. You can connect through the Pipeworx streamable HTTP endpoint or run the package locally over stdio. Use it when an agent needs to produce fictional or humorous corporate-review language rather than factual HR analysis.

Use cases

  • Generate humorous fictional performance reviews
  • Turn manager talking points into vague corporate language
  • Prototype an MCP client with structured text generation
  • Call the review function directly over HTTP

Key features

  • Satirical corporate review generation
  • Four supported performance ratings
  • Pipeworx hosted MCP endpoint
  • Local stdio package
  • Direct HTTP tool calls

How Performance Review works

What the Performance Review MCP server does

The Performance Review MCP server exposes one pack-specific MCP tool: performance_review_generate. It creates a satirical corporate performance review for a named employee. The result is designed to communicate little clearly, so it fits humorous, fictional, or creative writing workflows rather than formal employee evaluation.

The tool accepts five inputs:

  • employee_name: the employee’s name.
  • role: the employee’s job title or role.
  • rating: one of rockstar, solid, developing, or not_a_culture_fit.
  • actual_performance: factual or invented performance details supplied by the caller.
  • what_manager_wants_to_say: the underlying message the manager wants expressed.

It returns generated review text. The package wraps the StupidAPIs performance-review function and is described in the README as keyless, with no credential required.

How it works

The Performance Review MCP server can be reached in two ways. The hosted option uses the Pipeworx gateway endpoint at https://gateway.pipeworx.io/performance-review/mcp. A compatible MCP client sends initialization, tool listing, and tool-call messages to that endpoint.

The gateway endpoint lists the pack’s review tool along with shared Pipeworx meta-tools. These additional tools can route questions across the wider Pipeworx catalog, discover tools, search, and store or recall information. The exact gateway tool scope can change; the connection’s initialize response is authoritative.

A standalone package is also available through @pipeworx/mcp-performance-review. It communicates over stdin and stdout and exposes only the performance-review pack’s tools, without the gateway’s shared meta-tools or cross-catalog routing.

Setup and configuration

For the hosted connection, add the gateway URL to an MCP client configuration.

For local use, configure the client to run npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-performance-review as the MCP command. Running the same command directly verifies that the package starts. No environment variables or API keys are documented as required.

Clients without MCP support can call the HTTP tool endpoint directly with a JSON POST request to https://gateway.pipeworx.io/v1/tools/performance_review_generate.

Tools and capabilities

The Performance Review MCP server provides:

  • Satirical review generation from structured employee data.
  • Four predefined rating values.
  • Separate fields for observed performance and the manager’s intended message.
  • Hosted MCP access through Pipeworx.
  • Local stdio execution through the published npm package.

The gateway also exposes shared Pipeworx tools on the hosted pack endpoint, but those are not part of the standalone package.

Limitations and notes

Generated text is intentionally unclear and satirical. It should not be treated as an objective performance assessment, an HR record, or a substitute for documented feedback. The material does not describe customization options, persistent storage for generated reviews, authentication requirements beyond the hosted setup notes, or additional standalone tools.

Frequently Asked Questions about Performance Review

Performance Review is an MCP server that connects AI agents to the StupidAPIs-backed performance-review function through Pipeworx and exposes performance_review_generate. It accepts an employee name, role, rating, actual performance, and manager wording, then returns satirical corporate review text. The local package runs over stdin/stdout.

Run it locally with `npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-performance-review` and configure that command as an MCP server. Alternatively, add the hosted Pipeworx MCP URL to a compatible client.

Add the hosted endpoint `https://gateway.pipeworx.io/performance-review/mcp` to Cursor’s MCP configuration, or configure Cursor to launch the local npm package over stdio.

Yes, send a JSON POST request to `https://gateway.pipeworx.io/v1/tools/performance_review_generate`. Include `employee_name`, `role`, `rating`, `actual_performance`, and `what_manager_wants_to_say` in the request body.
