What PAVE MCP server does
PAVE MCP server gives AI assistants read access to flight-training information stored in PAVE. The available data depends on the signed-in account: students can access their own records, while instructors and schools can access the people and operational information permitted in their PAVE app.
The server covers syllabus structure and progress, people and instructors, documents, bookings, calendars, schedules, fleet status, individual aircraft, holds, open squawks, and currency. It also provides aviation reference data, including the text of specified federal regulations, the AIM, advisory circulars, and answers saved in a user's rules notebook.
How it works
PAVE hosts the MCP endpoint at https://api.pavecfi.com/mcp. Connections use remote streamable HTTP rather than a locally installed package. OAuth signs the assistant into the user's PAVE account, and each tool returns only information that account is allowed to see. The repository contains documentation; it does not contain a server implementation to run locally.
The tools are read-only. They do not create, edit, delete, or otherwise change PAVE records. For schedules and calendars, visibility is limited where appropriate: for example, other bookings may appear only as occupied periods rather than with their private details.
Setup and configuration
A PAVE account is required. During the beta period described in the documentation, accounts are provided through an instructor or school.
In VS Code, add a remote HTTP server entry to workspace or user MCP configuration, using the PAVE endpoint as the URL. Start the connection and complete sign-in in the browser window. Claude users can add PAVE from Claude's connector directory and authenticate there. Other clients can use the endpoint as a custom connector if they support streamable HTTP MCP servers and OAuth sign-in.
No package installation, local process, or environment variable is documented. The service is identified in the MCP Registry as com.pavecfi/pave.
Tools and capabilities
The PAVE MCP server exposes tools for:
- Reading a student's syllabus, stages, lessons, signatures, upcoming work, and topic locations.
- Reading person records, visible people, instructors, currency, and filed documents.
- Checking personal bookings, aircraft schedules, linked calendars, and instructor busy periods.
- Reviewing the school's fleet, aircraft airworthiness, aircraft holds, and open squawks.
- Looking up current METAR and TAF data, a daily forecast, and sunrise or sunset for a field.
- Retrieving exact text from 14 CFR, 49 CFR, the AIM, and advisory circulars, plus sourced notebook answers.
Weather results are intended as a display and forecast, not as a complete weather briefing. Course information from outside the user's organization may be represented with ownership and counts rather than full course details.
Limitations and notes
PAVE MCP server requires an account and does not provide unrestricted access to a school's data. A student's view differs from an instructor's or school's view, and the server follows those existing permissions. The service is hosted remotely, so local installation and self-hosting are not described.
The server is read-only, and the documentation does not describe mutation tools. Its weather capability should not be treated as a substitute for a briefing. Privacy and account access are governed by PAVE's policies and authentication flow.
