What Panda Video MCP server does
Panda Video MCP server exposes Panda Video account operations to compatible MCP clients. It can list and search videos, retrieve individual video details, rename videos, and import videos from URLs. Video results include public embed and HLS playback URLs, allowing an assistant to return links that can be played.
Content organization includes folder creation, moving videos, and playlist management. Account data can be queried through analytics tools covering views, retention curves, top-performing videos, and account totals. Other capabilities cover reading subtitles, generating subtitles with AI, adding thumbnails, and reading or changing player settings for an account or an individual video.
Shorts workflows can import a source video and list the Shorts created from it. The available operations depend on which endpoint the client uses.
How it works
The hosted service uses stateless Streamable HTTP. The full endpoint is https://mcp.pandavideo.com/mcp and exposes 177 tools. The directory endpoint, https://mcp.pandavideo.com/mcp/directory, exposes 29 core tools for videos, folders, playlists, analytics, subtitles, thumbnails, player settings, and Shorts. It excludes credits, billing, users, and sub-accounts.
Panda Video MCP server supports OAuth 2.1 with discovery metadata, dynamic client registration, and PKCE using S256. The available OAuth scopes are videos:read and videos:write. API-key authentication is also available for scripts and local clients; the key is sent unchanged in the Authorization header.
Read-only and state-changing tools are identified through MCP annotations. Operations that modify or remove data use destructiveHint: true, while read-only operations use readOnlyHint: true.
Setup and configuration
No repository installation or local service is required. Add the endpoint to an MCP client and authenticate with a Panda Video account. Claude and ChatGPT use the directory URL with OAuth sign-in. Claude Code and Cursor examples use the full endpoint with an Authorization header containing a Panda Video API key.
For other clients, use a Streamable HTTP MCP implementation. OAuth discovery documents are published at Panda Video's well-known metadata URLs, so compliant clients can discover the authorization configuration from the service URL. API keys are available in the Panda Video dashboard under Settings, Advanced, and API Key, and should be treated as passwords.
A Panda Video account is required. Requests are limited to 60 per minute per account. Initial protocol and tool-catalogue requests can be made without credentials, but account operations require authentication and return HTTP 401 when it is absent.
Tools and capabilities
The Panda Video MCP server includes tools for:
- Listing, searching, reading, renaming, and importing videos
- Creating folders, moving videos, and building playlists
- Reading view, retention, ranking, and account-total analytics
- Reading and AI-generating subtitles
- Adding thumbnails
- Reading and changing player and per-video configuration
- Importing videos and listing generated Shorts
Choose the full endpoint when the client needs the complete catalogue, including areas not present in the directory endpoint. Choose the directory endpoint when a chat assistant only needs the core media-management features.
Limitations and notes
The service is hosted by Panda Video, and the repository contains configuration and documentation rather than the server implementation. Access depends on a Panda Video account and the selected authentication method. The directory endpoint does not include credits, billing, user, or sub-account tools. The documented request limit is 60 requests per minute for each account.
