What Ostrov retreat center does
The Ostrov retreat center MCP server exposes public information for the Ostrov retreat center in Karelia, Russia. It can retrieve center details, the current catalog of accommodation and related options, objects, event information, and calendar data. It can also calculate a preliminary quote from dates and a specified group or plan.
The calculations use the same rules as the website calculator. Rates and catalog data are read from the API at request time, so integrations should not hard-code changing prices. A calculated total is an estimate, not a reservation or confirmation that space is available.
How it works
The remote endpoint is available at https://ostrov.center/api/public/v1/mcp. It uses Streamable HTTP, accepts POST-based JSON-RPC requests, and does not require authentication. The remote deployment is stateless and exposes these tools:
get_center
get_catalog
get_objects
get_calendar
get_events
calculate_quote
suggest_group
The remote MCP provides read and calculation operations only. It does not accept guest-session tokens, save estimates, submit requests, or return private documents. The service supports MCP protocol versions 2025-06-18 and 2025-11-25.
A local Python package and stdio adapter are also included. Python 3.10 or newer is required, and the package has no external runtime dependencies. The local process can support operations that require an explicit human confirmation, including saving information or submitting a request. Existing API access can use a token supplied through the application environment.
Setup and configuration
For remote use, add the MCP URL to an application that supports remote MCP connections. Codex can register it with codex mcp add ostrov --url https://ostrov.center/api/public/v1/mcp; Claude Code can use claude mcp add --transport http ostrov https://ostrov.center/api/public/v1/mcp. Other applications use their own connector configuration.
For local use, clone or download the repository, then run python3 -m pip install .. The installed ostrov-mcp command can be used as the MCP process. Alternatively, configure the client to run python3 with the path to tools/ostrov_mcp.py. The OSTROV_API_BASE_URL variable can change the API address for local testing, while OSTROV_API_TOKEN can provide an existing session token through the host application.
Tools and capabilities
The Ostrov retreat center MCP server is suited to agents that need to answer questions about current retreat offerings or prepare an accommodation estimate from selected dates and group details. suggest_group can help produce a group composition for a calculation, while the catalog, objects, events, and calendar tools provide the source data used for planning.
The included Python client exposes equivalent API functionality, including catalog retrieval, example plans, quote calculation, session handling, and methods for operations that are not available through the remote MCP. Tests and contract-generation utilities are included in the source package.
Limitations and notes
A quote never confirms availability, a booking, or a guest’s arrival. An empty calendar, saved estimate, or submitted request is not sufficient confirmation; the retreat center must confirm whether a stay can proceed. Pricing for an author-led program should be checked with its organizer.
Remote MCP requests are subject to a 65,536-byte body limit and an overall limit of 300 requests per 60 seconds per address, in addition to REST read and calculation limits. Clients should honor Retry-After after a 429 response. The network timeout is 20 seconds, and the client does not automatically follow redirects or retry requests.
Local save and request operations require human confirmation. Requests additionally require consent. Tokens remain in the local MCP process memory; after a restart, access to earlier private documents is not restored unless a token is supplied again. The repository contains the client, adapter, contract, instructions, and tests, not the backend or guest data. The client code is MIT licensed, but that license does not cover site materials, photographs, or personal data.
