narumiruna/yfinance-mcp MCP server gives an MCP-compatible AI assistant access to Yahoo Finance data through yfinance. It covers equities, ETFs, mutual funds, analyst activity, financial statements, market news, options, ownership records, and sector rankings. Results are returned primarily as structured JSON, while historical prices can also be returned as a Markdown table or as a chart image.

The server is suited to research and analysis workflows that need several related views of a security. An agent can identify a symbol, inspect its valuation and financial history, review analyst actions, retrieve recent news, and examine options or holders using separate tools.

How it works

Requests are sent to named MCP tools with a ticker, search query, sector, screener definition, or other tool-specific parameters. The server queries Yahoo Finance through yfinance and maps the response into tool results. Available fields depend on the security and the data Yahoo Finance supplies; this is particularly relevant for analyst coverage, fund data, and security-specific company fields.

Historical prices support selectable periods and intervals. The result can include open, high, low, close, volume, dividends, and splits. Optional pre-market and post-market data can be requested when available. Chart modes cover price and volume, VWAP, and volume profile. Intraday minute intervals are restricted to short periods such as one or five days, and not every period-and-interval combination is valid.

Limitations and notes

narumiruna/yfinance-mcp depends on the information made available by Yahoo Finance, so fields and coverage can vary by symbol and security type. Analyst records may be absent or incomplete, and timestamps are converted to readable dates in ticker information. Screener result counts have Yahoo Finance limits, including a stated maximum of 250 for relevant query sizes.
