How Mulmocast Vision works

What mulmocast-vision MCP server does

The mulmocast-vision MCP server turns instructions given through an MCP-compatible client into presentation slides resembling a PowerPoint deck. It is aimed at business documents such as proposals, strategy presentations, reports, and analysis materials. The package includes more than 80 business-focused slide templates, covering layouts for items such as business model canvases, SWOT analysis, PEST analysis, 3C analysis, agendas, summaries, and closing slides.

Generated output is saved automatically beneath ~/Documents/mulmocast-vision/, with a date-based subdirectory for each generation. The server can also export an entire presentation to PDF or create a PDF from selected slides.

How it works

An MCP-compatible client sends a natural-language request to the server. For example, a prompt can ask for a comparison of AI companies and specify an approximate slide count. The LLM uses the available MCP functionality to create slides from that instruction.

The implementation works with HTML-based templates. Developers can adjust existing designs or create different designs by modifying the HTML and related styles. Operations include reading templates, rendering HTML and PNG output, and creating PDFs. The server records initialization, tool calls, results, file activity, and errors in JSON Lines logs. Daily log files are written to /tmp/mulmocast-vision-mcp/ using names such as mcp_yyyymmdd.log.

Setup and configuration

No global package installation is required. Configure the package as a stdio MCP server using npx in the client configuration:

json
"mulmocast-vision": {
  "command": "npx",
  "args": ["mulmocast-vision@latest"],
  "transport": { "stdio": true }
}

The README demonstrates this configuration with Claude Desktop and notes that comparable MCP client settings can be used elsewhere. npx must be installed and available on the path; if it is not, configure the command with its full filesystem path.

Tools and capabilities

The mulmocast-vision MCP server supports these operations through prompts:

  • Create slides for each page of a presentation.
  • Update specified slides.
  • Generate a PDF containing all slides.
  • Generate a PDF containing selected slides.
  • Save generated presentation files automatically.
  • Customize designs by editing HTML-based templates.
  • Replace the default logger with a custom implementation through the package logger API.

Limitations and notes

The source repository has been archived, and active development has moved to the mulmocast-plus monorepo under packages/mulmocast-vision. The provided setup uses npx, so the client environment needs a working Node.js package runner. The documented output location is local to the machine running the server.

Frequently Asked Questions about Mulmocast Vision

mulmocast-vision is an MCP server that connects an MCP-compatible client to an LLM-driven presentation generator. Its main tools create and update slides, save generated decks locally, and produce PDFs for all slides or selected slides. It includes more than 80 business-oriented templates for proposals, reports, strategy decks, and analysis documents.

You do not need a global installation; configure the server to run with npx. Add a stdio entry using the command npx and the argument mulmocast-vision@latest to your MCP client configuration, and make sure npx is installed or provide its full path.

Ask the MCP-compatible client to generate a PDF for the complete presentation or for specified slides. The server supports both PDF operations through prompts, and generated files are saved under ~/Documents/mulmocast-vision/.

Slides are saved under ~/Documents/mulmocast-vision/, normally within a date-based directory. Operational logs and errors are written as daily JSON Lines files in /tmp/mulmocast-vision-mcp/.

Yes, Claude Desktop is the client shown in the setup example. Configure mulmocast-vision as a stdio server with npx and the mulmocast-vision@latest argument in claude_desktop_config.json.
