What Mississippi Code does
The Mississippi Code MCP server exposes three tools for working with the Mississippi Code of 1972 (Annotated). ms_code_section accepts citations in forms such as 97-3-19, Miss. Code Ann. § 89-8-19, or Section 97-3-19. Its response can include the section catchline, statutory text, history line, legislative and cross-reference notes, and a separate list of later acts identified by the project’s bill-text crawl.
ms_code_chapters lists chapter numbers and headings within a title. This supports browsing when an agent has a subject area or title but does not yet know the section citation. ms_code_search searches official section catchlines using a baked, IDF-weighted word-overlap index. It does not search the complete body text of statutes.
The Mississippi Code MCP server is listed in the Legal category and is an independent, unofficial integration. It does not provide case-law annotations in section results; judicial-decision material is intentionally excluded.
How it works
Section and chapter requests fetch title pages from the UniCourt GitHub Pages copy of the Mississippi Code. That copy was generated from publicly released RTF volumes associated with the 2018 code, and the available release is Release 78 from July 8, 2020. Search uses a packaged catchline index instead of a live upstream full-text search.
Section responses preserve the older snapshot rather than rewriting it with later changes. A later_acts field can list bills that the project’s crawl found touching the requested citation after the snapshot date. Entries identify details such as the session, bill, legislative chapter when available, amendment verb, source link, and whether the change was merged. These entries are explicitly marked as not merged into the returned statutory text. The response also identifies sessions checked and the date of the later-acts data.
The overlay can recognize amendments, newly created sections, repeals, brought-forward provisions, and certain ranges. It does not assign citations to uncodified provisions or newly created sections that have not received a final citation. A missing snapshot section may include later_acts_if_created when the overlay suggests that the citation was created later.
Setup and configuration
The Mississippi Code MCP server is keyless. The provided material states that it requires no signup, login, or credential on either side of the call. No environment variables or additional configuration values are documented in the supplied README.
The source pages are fetched live for section and chapter requests, while the keyword index is baked into the service. The material does not provide client-specific installation commands or identify particular MCP clients.
Limitations and notes
The Mississippi Code MCP server is not a continuously updated statement of current law. Its primary text reflects the July 8, 2020 snapshot and does not incorporate amendments from the 2021 through 2026 Regular Sessions. Responses expose current_through and data_as_of values so callers can account for that age. Later acts are useful for follow-up research, but they are not a reconciled current code. Verify post-2020 law against the official LexisNexis-hosted Code or the relevant Mississippi legislative authority before relying on it.
Full-text keyword search is unavailable because the referenced publisher and two common third-party renderings are protected by Cloudflare challenges. Search therefore covers official catchlines only. Title 79 chapter browsing works, but section-level extraction for that title is unsupported because its source markup lacks usable section identifiers. The tool reports this condition separately from an ordinary missing citation.
Use the Mississippi Code MCP server for citation lookup, historical reference, and initial legal research—not as a substitute for checking the current official text or obtaining legal advice.
