How MCP Server works

What itsconvo/mcp-server does

itsconvo/mcp-server MCP server exposes Convo meeting information through the Model Context Protocol. It lets an AI assistant find meetings, retrieve complete transcripts with speaker names and timestamps, inspect summaries, and review communication feedback and scores. The server can also answer questions about a meeting, draft a follow-up email based on the discussion, and create a shareable meeting link.

The server also works across multiple meetings. An assistant can prepare a briefing about previous conversations with a person or company, produce a digest for a selected time period, or find action items across meetings with owner or priority filtering. Calendar access is available through a tool for upcoming events, while account information includes the current plan and API usage.

How it works

The server runs as an MCP process and communicates with an AI assistant configured to start the convo-mcp command. Requests use the Convo API through an API key supplied in the process environment. Once connected, the assistant can call individual tools or use the supplied prompts for common workflows.

Three built-in prompts are documented: meeting-prep creates a preparation workflow, weekly-review organizes a weekly review, and follow-up-blitz drafts emails for recent meetings. Example requests include preparing for a meeting with a named person, reviewing overdue action items, summarizing a week of meetings, and comparing decisions about a topic across recent conversations.

Setup and configuration

Using itsconvo/mcp-server MCP server requires a Convo account on the Starter plan or above, an API key created in the Convo app under Settings, and Node.js 18 or newer. Install the package globally with:

Configure the assistant to launch convo-mcp and provide the key as CONVO_API_KEY. The key should be replaced with the API key from the user’s Convo account.
