Overview

hostsmith/mcp-server MCP server connects AI clients to the Hostsmith hosting platform for artifact-first static site deployment. It can create, inspect, list, and delete sites, manage domain information, read account usage, and deploy inline or uploaded files. OAuth 2.0 protects access, with hosted Streamable HTTP and local stdio or HTTP options. How MCP Server works

What hostsmith/mcp-server MCP server does

hostsmith/mcp-server exposes Hostsmith static hosting operations through the Model Context Protocol. An agent can create a site, upload generated files, and use the resulting live HTTPS address for a report, demo, landing page, or other static artifact. It also provides account and site administration tools, including site details, deletion, domain discovery, subscription information, and usage data.

Hostsmith supports shared and custom domains, private sites, and separate EU or US data partitions. The server is suited to workflows where the agent produces deployable files directly rather than working through a source repository, build configuration, or continuous integration system.

How it works

Authentication uses OAuth 2.0; static access tokens are not supported. The hosted MCP endpoint is available at https://mcp.hostsmith.net/mcp, and clients that support remote Streamable HTTP can connect to it directly. During the first tool call, the client redirects the user to Hostsmith to authorize access.

For local stdio use, an MCP client can launch the package with npx -y @hostsmith/mcp-server. The package also supports a local HTTP mode through npx @hostsmith/mcp-server http, exposing the MCP endpoint at port 3100 by default. Claude Code can use either the stdio configuration or the hosted HTTP endpoint.

Deployments may send file contents inline with deploy_files. For binaries or larger files, deploy_create_upload starts a direct upload and deploy_finalize commits it. Site and domain operations use the selected Hostsmith data partition.

Setup and configuration

Claude users can add the hosted endpoint as a custom connector and authorize it in the browser. Cursor can add the same remote endpoint through its MCP installation flow. Claude Code, Cursor, Cline, Windsurf, and Zed can also launch the package through the standard stdio configuration.

The HTTP handler can be embedded in a Lambda, edge worker, or Node server through createFetchHandler. It accepts configuration for the Hostsmith URL and MCP base URL, and an optional onServer hook that runs for authenticated MCP requests. The package itself sends no telemetry; the hosted service may attach its own usage analytics hook.

Configuration can override the Hostsmith application URL, API domain, API base URL, HTTP port, and MCP base URL. API-domain overrides can route requests to staging or proxied hosts, while a fixed base URL bypasses partition selection.

Limitations and notes

OAuth 2.0 authorization is required, and static access tokens cannot be used. The server is focused on static hosting; its documented deployment flow sends files rather than building an application from a repository. When embedding the handler, decoded token claims supplied to onServer are not verified by the hook itself; Hostsmith verifies the token during each tool call.
