What mcp-reddit-brand-presence-mapper MCP server does
The mcp-reddit-brand-presence-mapper MCP server accepts either a company domain or a subreddit handle. With a domain, it discovers a likely official or community subreddit; with a handle, it skips discovery and fetches the specified profile. The result is one flat row containing company identity, subreddit details, activity indicators, mention data, statuses, and the run date.
Subreddit data can include the profile URL and title, recent post count, latest post time, days since the latest post, and the number of distinct recent authors. The mention portion reports the query used, sample size, number of distinct subreddits, top subreddit, and latest mention time. The actor returns 26 snake_case fields without nested objects, which can fit a flat table workflow.
How it works
The package is a thin client for the Mamba Labs Reddit Brand Presence and Mention Monitor actor on Apify. Lookup and collection run on Apify; the MCP package does not implement the discovery logic locally. Successful lookups are cached for seven days by default. Set skipCache to true when a fresh fetch is needed.
The default mention query uses the company domain in quotes, which is intended to avoid confusing a brand with an ordinary word. You can provide mentionQuery to search for a different term. Mention collection is enabled by default, while includeMentions: false limits the run to the subreddit lookup. includeFollowerCounts controls whether the profile is fetched for count extraction.
Reddit availability is a material constraint. Public .rss feeds are the open route described by the project, while unauthenticated JSON routes return 403. A refused request appears as blocked, not as a zero, and separate status fields distinguish blocked reads from empty results. Supplying a Reddit app client ID and secret is the documented way to obtain subscriber counts.
Setup and configuration
Run the package with Node.js 18 or newer, an Apify account, and an Apify API token. A Claude Desktop configuration uses npx -y @mambalabsdev/mcp-reddit-brand-presence-mapper and passes APIFY_TOKEN in the server environment. After adding the configuration, restart Claude Desktop so the map_reddit_brand_presence tool becomes available.
The input must contain either company_domain or handle. company_name is optional and can improve identity matching. redditClientId and redditClientSecret are optional; the secret is used for the run and is not stored. The README directs users to the Apify account integrations page for the API token and to Reddit’s app settings for Reddit credentials.
Tools and capabilities
The mcp-reddit-brand-presence-mapper exposes the map_reddit_brand_presence tool. Its supported inputs allow callers to:
- Resolve a subreddit from a company domain.
- Fetch a subreddit directly by handle.
- Change the Reddit query used for mention sampling.
- Include or omit the site-wide mention sample.
- Include or omit follower-count extraction.
- Reuse the seven-day cache or request a fresh lookup.
The output is designed as a single company row, with fields such as subreddit_status, subreddit_subscribers_status, and mentions_status available for interpreting partial or blocked results.
Limitations and notes
Subscriber counts require the caller’s own Reddit app credentials; the rest of the lookup can still run without them. Reddit may refuse subreddit or mention reads, and those refusals should be retried rather than interpreted as no activity. For the actor’s complete schema, pricing, and run history, consult the linked Apify Store documentation. The project is released under the MIT license.
