What kukapay/stargate-bridge-mcp MCP server does

The kukapay/stargate-bridge-mcp MCP server connects an MCP client to cross-chain transfers through the Stargate protocol. It provides discovery functions for supported chains and bridgeable tokens, quote retrieval for a selected route, and an execution function for submitting a transfer.

Use it to inspect available networks before selecting a route, identify destination tokens for a source token, compare the returned bridge details, or initiate a transfer after specifying the minimum destination amount. The execution path uses the first quote returned for the requested route.

Transfers require an Ethereum-compatible wallet private key. The server uses that key to sign transactions and broadcast them, so it should be run only in an environment where the key can be stored and protected appropriately.

How it works

An MCP client calls list_chains to retrieve supported networks and their chain details. list_bridgeable_tokens accepts a source chain key and source token address, then returns available destination chains, token symbols, and destination addresses.

get_quotes takes source and destination chain keys, source and destination token addresses, a source amount, and a minimum destination amount. Optional source and destination addresses can be supplied. The response includes expected and minimum received amounts, estimated time, fees, and the transaction steps needed for the route.

bridge_transfer accepts the same core route and amount information and can receive an optional destination address. It executes the first available quote, signing and broadcasting each transaction step. A successful result includes transaction hashes; a failed step returns an error.

Setup and configuration

The kukapay/stargate-bridge-mcp MCP server requires Python 3.10 or newer. The documented setup uses uv: clone the repository, enter its directory, and run uv sync. The README also lists installing the dependencies with pip as a fallback.

Create a .env file containing PRIVATE_KEY with the private key for the Ethereum-compatible wallet that will authorize transfers. Do not commit this file. The documented Claude Desktop setup runs main.py with uv and passes the repository directory and PRIVATE_KEY through the MCP configuration.

The README shows installation into Claude Desktop with uv run mcp install main.py --name "Stargate Bridge". A configured MCP client can then invoke the server's tools.

Limitations and notes

Bridging is currently limited to EVM-compatible chains, with Ethereum, Polygon, and Arbitrum given as examples. Non-EVM networks such as Solana are planned but are not supported by the current implementation.

A transfer can fail if a transaction step reverts or the wallet lacks sufficient gas. The tool's minimum destination amount should be selected by the caller, and the execution function does not provide a choice among multiple quotes because it uses the first one.
