What InfoSlides does
InfoSlides β put content on a TV or screen MCP server gives an MCP client tools for operating an InfoSlides digital-signage workspace. An agent can create a workspace without an existing account, upload .pptx or PDF files, add media from URLs or local files, build and edit slideshows, register screens, and assign playback schedules.
The server also supports live content. Tools can create and manage fetched data sources, accept pushed data from an external system, and update template-based slides as values change. Other capabilities cover tickers, clocks, visibility conditions, temporary takeovers, AI Studio slides, screen pairing, device identification, playback reports, health checks, and diagnosing what a screen is showing.
How it works
The repository provides one dependency-free infoslides executable that can act as both a command-line tool and a local MCP server. A local MCP client starts the binary with the --mcp argument and communicates over stdio. The client can use an existing INFOSLIDES_API_KEY, or the agent can call create_tenant to provision a workspace and receive an administrator key.
After content and a device are configured, stream link or the corresponding MCP tools provide a URL for the TV or screen. The URL works with the screen's browser or the InfoSlides TV app. Playback can use a rendered-video stream or a live HTML/CSS loop, selected through slideshow playback settings.
A hosted endpoint is available at https://infoslides.app/mcp over streamable HTTP. It uses OAuth sign-in or a bearer isk_ API key and acts against the connected InfoSlides workspace. The hosted variant exposes a curated set of screen-management tools; local-only operations such as workspace creation and local-path uploads are not included there.
Setup and configuration
Install the release binary and place it on the machine's PATH. The README shows a macOS/Linux archive installation and provides a version-pinned release URL. MCP clients can be configured with a command pointing to the executable and args: ["--mcp"].
The repository documents direct installation for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, and Cursor. It also provides a Gemini CLI extension, an Antigravity plugin, a Claude plugin using the hosted server, and an .mcpb bundle for clients that support MCP bundles. The manual stdio configuration accepts INFOSLIDES_API_KEY, but the variable is optional when the agent should create a workspace from scratch.
A typical initial workflow is to create a workspace, clone a starter-gallery slideshow or upload content, create a device, assign the slideshow, and open the resulting stream URL on the display. New workspaces are described as having a permanent free plan limited to one screen, four slideshows, two users, and 200 MB.
Tools and capabilities
The documented tool surface includes:
- Workspace, team, locale, API-key, and billing-plan operations.
- Slideshow creation, file replacement, deletion, editing, previews, and sharing settings.
- Media uploads, URL-based media, schedules, visibility rules, and temporary takeovers.
- Device registration, pairing, renaming, location lookup, identification, and playback links.
- Live-data sources, push data, source keys, source status, tickers, and template slides.
- Screen previews, play-status checks, health summaries, offline alerts, and device diagnosis.
- AI Studio slide generation, insertion, and job-status retrieval.
InfoSlides β put content on a TV or screen MCP server also includes tools for reporting issues and leaving testimonials. Plan limits are enforced by the backend rather than bypassed by the tool layer.
Limitations and notes
InfoSlides β put content on a TV or screen MCP server requires an InfoSlides workspace or a workspace created during setup. The hosted server requires OAuth consent or a bearer API key and does not expose every local-server operation. In particular, hosted usage excludes workspace creation, API-key management, local-path file uploads, billing, and checkout.
The physical display still needs a way to open the supplied stream, such as a compatible browser or the InfoSlides TV app. Schedule assignment can produce AspectMismatch warnings, so screen orientation and slideshow layout may need review. The README does not specify a license for the repository.
