What infinitecampus-mcp MCP server does

The infinitecampus-mcp MCP server exposes an Infinite Campus Campus Parent account to an MCP-compatible assistant. Its tools cover academic records and everyday school information, including students, schedules, assignments, grades, school days, attendance, behavior, food service, documents, messages, teachers, standardized assessments, fees, and available portal features.

The server is intended for a single account. After the primary account signs in, linked districts can be discovered through CUPS single sign-on, so a parent with students in multiple linked districts does not need separate district configuration. Separate Infinite Campus instances with different credentials require separate MCP server processes.

This project is an unofficial automation tool for an authorized Campus Parent or Campus Student user. It belongs in the 🎓 Education category and should only be used with records the account holder is permitted to view.

How it works

The infinitecampus-mcp MCP server tries authentication methods in priority order. It first uses environment-variable credentials when all legacy credential fields are present. If only the base URL and district are configured, it can fall back to a ContextMint Bridge browser extension session. After the user signs in to the portal in Chrome, the server reads the relevant session cookies and then makes direct API requests from Node. The extension is not used for each request.

The browser-session cookie read is repeated when the servlet session expires, allowing the MCP process to continue after a short idle timeout if the user remains signed in. The server uses Infinite Campus mobile-app JSON endpoints, including routes under /campus/api/oneRosterCampus and /portal/api/....

Most tools retrieve information. ic_download_document is identified as a write/IO operation that a harness may gate. Message retrieval combines prism notifications, the Messenger 2.0 inbox, and portal announcements; ic_get_message returns the parsed HTML body of an inbox message.

Setup and configuration

Configure IC_BASE_URL with the district's Campus Parent host and IC_DISTRICT with its district identifier. For direct authentication, also set IC_USERNAME and IC_PASSWORD; IC_NAME can provide a display name and otherwise defaults to the district value.

For the browser fallback, set only the base URL and district, install ContextMint Bridge from its GitHub releases, and load the Chrome extension unpacked through Chrome's extensions page. Safari support is not available in the documented setup. IC_DISABLE_FETCHPROXY=1 disables the fallback and makes missing direct credentials an error, which is useful for headless CI.

Consult the repository's .env.example for the configuration format. The ContextMint Bridge source is public, and release archives have accompanying SHA-256 files for verification.

Tools and capabilities

The infinitecampus-mcp MCP server includes tools for:

  • Listing districts and enrolled students.
  • Reading schedules, assignments, grades, recent grades, and school calendar days.
  • Reviewing course attendance summaries and individual attendance events with codes and comments.
  • Checking behavior and food-service records when those features are enabled.
  • Listing and downloading documents.
  • Listing messages and retrieving a parsed inbox-message body.
  • Listing teachers, counselors, standardized assessment results, fees, and enrollment feature flags.

Assignment section IDs are handled server-side, while missing-only and date filtering are handled client-side. Recent grades use a default 14-day window. Behavior and food-service tools account for districts where those features are disabled.

Limitations and notes

The server is not affiliated with Infinite Campus or any school district. Its documented use is personal access to the account holder's own authorized records, not bulk extraction, sharing another family's data, or model training. Infinite Campus terms may restrict access through unsupported interfaces, and the project notes that its API usage may be treated as a terms-of-service violation.

Grades, attendance, behavior, schedules, and other student records are confidential educational data. FERPA and, where applicable, COPPA considerations affect how results are stored, shared, or supplied to an LLM. District policies may impose additional restrictions. Users are responsible for credentials, rate limits, account warnings, and other consequences of using the tool.
