What IndustryLens MCP server does

The IndustryLens MCP server exposes public B2B SaaS competitive-intelligence data through MCP. It covers company firmographics, strategic changes, competitor relationships, pricing and packaging updates, published reports, head-to-head comparisons, and monitored market categories.

Company-oriented tools can return a competitive profile, list recent moves, identify competitors in the same tracked market, or provide a dated feed of detected changes. Pricing results include the type of change, severity, materiality score, plain-language explanation, and detection date. Market results provide a category overview and the players tracked in that category.

The public tier reports company facts and the existence of strategic shifts with their real analysis dates. It does not expose customer private data. Deeper account-specific reasoning, recommendations, and weekly briefings require an IndustryLens account.

How it works

The IndustryLens MCP server is available at https://api.industry-lens.com/mcp/public using Streamable HTTP. No account is required for the public endpoint. An MCP client sends tool requests to the endpoint and receives structured results for companies, markets, reports, comparisons, and pricing changes.

Reports and comparisons use slugs for retrieval after they have been listed. The list_markets result likewise provides a market slug for use with get_market_landscape. The server also publishes two resources: a JSON catalog of reports and a read pattern for retrieving an individual report.

Two prompts are available. market_brief creates a dated, cited brief for a company using its profile and dated move feed. compare_two compares two companies, preferring a published comparison and otherwise using their profiles.

Setup and configuration

Add the public endpoint to an MCP client as a Streamable HTTP server. A generic configuration uses the following structure:

The documentation provides client-specific installation guides for Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, ChatGPT, and Gemini. No environment variables or account credentials are required to connect to the public endpoint.

The repository contains the public documentation and connection manifest; the server implementation is private. The documentation and manifest are MIT-licensed.

The IndustryLens MCP server also exposes the industrylens://reports resource and individual report resources. Its prompts support dated company briefs and two-company comparisons.

Limitations and notes

Coverage is limited to B2B SaaS markets and companies tracked by IndustryLens. A market landscape represents the full set of players tracked in that category, not a custom competitor list selected by the user. Public results provide facts and detected shifts, but not the deeper per-account intelligence available through a paid account.

The newsletter subscription tool requires consent. Analysis dates identify when a strategic shift was analyzed; they should not be interpreted as the date on which the underlying business event necessarily occurred.
