What Georgia Code does
The Georgia Code MCP server exposes Georgia statute data from the Official Code of Georgia Annotated through two MCP tools. ga_code_section retrieves a section by citation, while ga_code_search searches the Code's body text and catchlines for a topic.
Section lookup accepts several citation styles, including numeric citations such as 16-5-1, forms using O.C.G.A., and descriptions such as “Title 16, Chapter 5, Section 1.” The response can include the current section text, catchline, heading path, active or repealed status, legislative history, editor's notes, cross-references, and stored historical versions. Sections with delayed or superseded effective dates may contain more than one version.
Search returns ranked citations with highlighted text snippets. A typical workflow is to search by subject first, then pass a returned citation to ga_code_section for the complete section record.
How it works
The tools call Georgia Commons API endpoints at request time. Citation lookup uses the sections endpoint, while topic search uses the search endpoint. The server passes citation text through to the upstream API rather than implementing its own citation parser, so the upstream service handles accepted formats and lookup errors.
The available statutory data is extracted from Georgia's officially released volumes, with source links pointing to the original legislature-hosted PDFs. The README identifies the collection as current through the 2025 Regular Session. Georgia Commons is described as an independent project and not an official State of Georgia service.
The Georgia Code MCP server does not query LexisNexis. It uses Georgia Commons' public, keyless JSON API instead. The API also contains other collections, but this package is limited to Georgia statutes.
Setup and configuration
No API key, signup, or environment variable is required. For gateway use, add the streamable HTTP endpoint https://gateway.pipeworx.io/georgia-code/mcp to an MCP client. The README specifically shows configurations for Claude Desktop, Cursor, and Windsurf. The gateway endpoint includes the pack's tools along with shared Pipeworx meta-tools.
The package can also run locally over stdio with npx -y @pipeworx/mcp-georgia-code. This mode exposes only the Georgia Code tools and avoids a Pipeworx account and gateway round trip. The same tools can also be called through the gateway's HTTP tool endpoint.
Tools and capabilities
ga_code_section(citation): retrieves a statute section and its available metadata and historical versions.
ga_code_search(query, limit?, headings_only?): searches statutory text, with an option to restrict matching to headings or catchlines.
- Supports citation lookup, topic discovery, section status, legislative or amendment history, notes, cross-references, and historical versions.
- Provides ranked search results with highlighted snippets for follow-up retrieval.
Limitations and notes
The Georgia Code MCP server is limited to statutes. It does not provide the upstream API's bills, Georgia Supreme Court opinions, Georgia Constitution, or U.S. Constitution collections through its own tools.
The unauthenticated Georgia Commons API documents shared limits of 120 requests per minute and 2,000 requests per hour. A rate-limit response may include a Retry-After value. One upstream request is made per tool call.
The data source is not presented as an official State of Georgia service. Statutory text is supplied through Georgia Commons, and the package is an independent, unofficial integration. The repository is licensed under MIT.
