Overview

Elementor MCP Lite connects local MCP clients to configured WordPress sites running Elementor and the separate GMC companion. It exposes four read-only tools for listing site aliases, checking authenticated connectivity, retrieving up to ten document records, and counting layout nodes from supplied JSON. The server runs over local stdio and is suited to inspection before making changes. It does not edit, publish, export, or provide Pro functionality.

Use cases

  • List configured Elementor sites before an inspection
  • Check authenticated WordPress companion connectivity
  • Review a small set of Elementor document statuses
  • Count nodes and types in a local layout JSON file

Key features

  • Local stdio MCP server
  • Read-only WordPress and Elementor inspection
  • Authenticated connection probing
  • Bounded document listing of up to ten items
  • Local layout node and type summarization
  • Restricted requests with TLS and response limits

How Elementor MCP Lite works

What Elementor MCP Lite does

Elementor MCP Lite provides a small, read-only toolset for inspecting WordPress sites that use Elementor. It works with the separately obtained GMC Elementor MCP companion and a WordPress Application Password. The server is intended for local use through an MCP client, giving an agent bounded access to site and document information without exposing editing operations.

Its four tools cover two kinds of inspection. Site-oriented tools list configured aliases and platforms, then perform a sanitized authenticated connectivity check. Document inspection returns no more than ten Elementor document titles, IDs, and statuses per call. The layout utility works on JSON supplied by the caller, reporting node counts and types rather than retrieving or exporting a document.

How it works

The process communicates with an MCP client through stdio. A local JSON configuration describes the sites and identifies environment variables that hold credentials. The client must pass those credential variables to the server process; secret values should not be placed in the site configuration or in an MCP conversation.

Online operations use a restricted GET allowlist, verified TLS, no redirects, and a maximum response size of 1 MiB. Requests are limited to one at a time for each configured base URL, with a two-second interval. HTTP is accepted only for exact loopback hosts. A 403 or 415 response prevents further requests to that base URL until the process restarts.

The layout summarizer is local: provide the contents of the example layout JSON as the layout_json argument. Its input is limited to 64 KiB and the result contains counts and node types, not settings or content.

Setup and configuration

Use Python 3.10 or newer. Clone the GitHub repository, create a virtual environment, and install the package from the checkout. The Lite package is distributed through GitHub rather than PyPI.

Copy sites.example.json to a local sites.json, retain only sites you own or are authorized to access, and keep that file out of version control. Set ELEMENTOR_MCP_LITE_SITES to its absolute path. Configure the username, password, and applicable Joomla token or key environment variables referenced by each site entry. The WordPress installation must have Elementor, the GMC companion version 0.5.0 or newer, and an Application Password.

Add the server to the MCP client using the example MCP configuration, replacing placeholders with absolute paths for the Python executable and configuration file. For WordPress installations without pretty REST URLs, set rest_mode to query; otherwise use pretty. Subdirectory installations are supported in the base URL.

A practical first session starts with elementor_lite_list_sites, followed by elementor_lite_ping_site.

Tools and capabilities

  • elementor_lite_list_sites returns configured aliases and platforms.
  • elementor_lite_ping_site makes one authenticated GET and returns a sanitized status.
  • elementor_lite_list_documents returns up to ten Elementor document titles, IDs, and statuses.
  • elementor_lite_summarize_layout analyzes supplied layout JSON and returns node counts and types.
  • The MCP resource gmc://lite/pro-features presents an informational comparison with the separate Pro product.

Limitations and notes

Lite cannot create, edit, publish, import, export, bulk-edit, or restore layouts and documents. Pro tools and Pro implementation are not bundled, and Lite does not use Elementor's separate native MCP or Atomic capabilities. The document tool reads the companion's classic document listing only.

No remote HTTP server, file uploads, arbitrary URLs, SSH access, license switching, browser editor, screenshots, or production integration checks are included. The ping checks the GMC companion connection, not theme-editing capability. The companion is obtained separately from GMC, and the Lite license is a limited commercial license.

Frequently Asked Questions about Elementor MCP Lite

Elementor MCP Lite is an MCP server that connects local MCP clients to WordPress sites using Elementor and the GMC companion. Its main tools list site aliases, check authenticated connectivity, retrieve up to ten document records, and summarize node counts and types from supplied layout JSON. All four tools are read-only.

Install it by cloning the GitHub repository, creating a Python 3.10+ virtual environment, and running the platform-specific pip install command from the checkout. Configure the local site file and MCP client with absolute paths; the package is distributed through GitHub rather than PyPI.

It requires Python 3.10+, WordPress with Elementor, the separately obtained GMC Elementor MCP companion, and a WordPress Application Password. Credentials are supplied through environment variables referenced by the local site configuration, while `ELEMENTOR_MCP_LITE_SITES` points to that configuration file.

No, Elementor MCP Lite is read-only and cannot create, edit, publish, import, export, bulk-edit, or restore Elementor layouts or documents. Those capabilities belong to the separate Pro product and are not bundled with Lite.

Yes, Elementor MCP Lite uses standard local stdio MCP communication, so it can be configured in Cursor as an MCP server. The client must launch the configured Python executable and pass the required credential environment variables to the child process.
